Ok, bit of a good news post after my previous whinge and cough.

My wife was traveling back to London with Emirates recently. They include a free car transfer to and from your flight (real nice touch) when you travel first. She had barely allowed enough time to get to the flight. Unfortunately the car didn’t turn up. She called Emirates, they tracked the car down, it was at the airport, driver thought it was a pick up from the airport not a pick up from the suburbs.

Emirates said they would call her a Taxi because there wasn’t enough time to send a car.

When the taxi got to the airport, an Emirates staff member was waiting at the curb, ready to pay the cab driver. They had already checked her in and printed the luggage tag and boarding pass AND filled in her departure card (as much as they could). They escorted her right to the plane.

They also gave her $200 off her next flight.

*Brilliant*

The car transfer is terrific. I recently had to get from Abu Dhabi to Dubai to pick up a flight to home. The service is for unlimited mileage in the Middle East, and a limo came all the way to pick me up (about 2 hours each way). All included in the cost of the ticket.

Elsewhere they have more rigid constraints. The driver who collected me at Glasgow told me of a regular customer who had worked out where to meet the car so it was exactly 100 miles from the airport - right on their limit.

Didn't Virgin Atlantic do the same at one point?

When I flew J on Malaysian a couple of years ago they provided free transfer from home to airport. Wonder what they do for F, pack your bags for you?

EK trans-tasman in first or business provides limo transfers at both ends, both ways.

On something like AKL-MEL-AKL you can get back a goodly portion of the fare just from this.
