I'm doing a late flight from LHR into JFK , and it seems that they don't have a late connection through to LAX.... So I'll have to an early connection the next morning..

Never been to NYC, Does anyone know a hotel close to the airport ?

We stayed once at the "Sheraton JFK" in 2008 - a week after it opened. It's not palatial, really being an "airport Hotel", but sufficient for overnight.

There really are no good hotels near JFK-it is a very seedy area.We stayed at the Doubletree-did the job and the restaurant wasnt too bad.

There are quite a few around the airport than can be accessed by the airport train and then a hotel shuttle (free).

Also stayed at the Sheraton in November. Nothing special but did the job.

Yeah it is a pretty seedy area. I've walked around it and nothing bad happened though! I also did some shopping at a mall nearby (Green Acres Mall) at night, and also felt on edge while walking through the carpark and trying to get a cab service but was ok.

I don't think I've found a "good" hotel in the area, although the average ones are reasonable.

I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza (ouch looking at it's current TripAdvisor reviews - looks to have spiraled downwards into oblivion - been terminated by ICH, and basically gone bust), and also the Hampton Inn.

I didn't mind the Hampton Inn. it's attached to a Holiday Inn, so the two should be similar really, and the Hampton Inn does get good reviews on Tripadvisor.

Thanks for the advice guys. For one night it's not a big issue for the massive quality of the hotel.

I've stayed at the Sheraton too - it seems to be the most over-priced place ever, especially since you'll only be there for a few hours. The Hilton (I think, or was it the Hampton?) right next door (they even share the same shuttle) is the same quality, but much cheaper.

On FT, people say the Sheraton is right next to a sewerage treatment plant and if the wind blows the wrong way... Luckily, I haven't experienced that...

The Marriott is of the same quality too, and a much better price, IMHO.

Dropped into this thread a little late. Given your second sentence, I'd ditch the LAX flight (well move it to as late as possible....) stay downtown and spend the next morning exploring a tiny chunk of Manhattan ......:!::!: :D

Having an overnight coming up soon, so am thinking of the Holiday Inn Express this time.
