Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can share any suggestions of a good Fishing Destination.

Mr Slinky loves to go fishing and I was just pondering possibilities for him to go fishing at some overseas destination.

Many thanks for any suggestions :)

You could try New Brighton, outside Christchurch in NZ.
Cheapest overseas place to get to, with not a lot of pollution.
Lots of Asians on that long jetty, but I think the jetty is having works done to it at the moment.

I love fishing but I am the world's worst fisherman. My first memory is being in a boat on the Hawkesbury River in the middle of ~ 30 other boats.they were all catching fish whilst we sat without even a bite.
then in Rotorua I arrived one Friday night and on the front page was an article about a local guide who in 20 years had never had a client that hadn't caught a trophy trout.I rang and booked an hour next morning.4 hours after setting out he gave up as he had to drive to Auckland.
But on 3 occasions I have had incredible success.Once was obviously a sign from God.The next was at the Birri Fishing lodge on Mornington Island.absolutely fantastic fishing and crabbing.
The other was on the Inside passage in Alaska.Fantastic Halibut and salmon fishing.

Its a very, very broad question! Can you give us a few more pointers - budget, what else you might want in a destination, preferred time of year, do you prefer warm or cold weather?
Off the top of my head, North Island NZ for kingfish, Patagonia for trout, Baja, Mexico for big game, remote NT for Barramundi...

Thanks so much everyone for the replies.

Would prefer warm and ocean/estuary.

Currently Mr Slinky has a sea kayak that he uses down here in the bay ( Melb). We did go up to the Sunshine coast and he enjoyed a 10 hour fishing charter out to the reef. Also spent loads of time fishing off the piers/rocks.

Its many years since we have had any overseas holiday and I thought it may be good to be able to incorporate some fishing.

Does he fly fish? There is good flats fishing in New Caledonia I believe (using a guide)

How about up on Western Australia's Kimberley Coast - going in search of a big barra? There's a few high end lodges like the Berkeley River Lodge, Faraway Bay and the Kimberley Coastal Camp. All offer excellent fishing. Or you could join a Kimberley cruise, there's several small ships offering good fishing content including True North, Great Escape and Kimberley Quest. Unreal Adventures also offers fishing trips of a few days in duration from Broome, at a more manageable price.

The Kimberley is great for fishing, but you're going to be travelling between April and early October only.

I have great memories of my own first morning fishing aboard the Kimberley Quest. I grew up in regional Victoria and used to catch only the occasional European Carp down in the irrigation channel so I can't say I am an expert fisherman, and my expectations were somewhat muted. But that first morning in the Kimberley, wow.. a two hour fishing excursion had me catch THIRTEEN Mangrove Jack and Fingermark, all of a very good sized. The ship's chef was most pleased and we all enjoyed a nice dinner that night.. Anyway, I digress...
