Want to share a little of the mishaps and successes of my latest trip.

Return from the USA I was booked to fly Wichita - Dallas - Sydney - Brisbane - Townsville. Severe weather introduced significant delays and at check-in we learnt that our delayed flight to Dallas gave us 20mins from touchdown to departure on our QANTAS flight. Wichita was delayed so much that the previous AA flight to Dallas (scheduled several hours earlier) was still 45mins away from boarding. Understandably the check-in agents were filling that flight with as many people as possible in order to minimise missed connections. When I asked to be moved to that earlier flight in order to not miss QF8 I was told that they won't bring people forward with international connections, only those with domestic. Has anyone experienced this before? Being OW Emerald I thought I would have had a shot?

Anyway... the flight leaving Wichita was up to 4 hours late (we took off out of Wichita after QF8 took off out of Dallas). AA staff at Wichita wanted nothing to do with me and told me that when I get to Dallas it will all be sorted.
Landed in Dallas and received new boarding passes to LA the following morning then on Qantas to Brisbane then up to Townsville (roughly 24hours later than originally planned). I was assured my bags would be following me.

The next day I landed in LA (only three hours delay) and then landed in Brisbane.... No bags. (surprise surprise). Qantas baggage services were polite and professional however couldn't tell me what went wrong and couldn't see what the bags were or where they were meant to go.

Because of the extra day of travel plus the estimated delivery day of my bags they were going to arrive when I was visiting family on the Sunshine Coast. I am single and live alone in Townsville so I arranged to have my bags delivered to where I'd be on the Sunshine Coast.

An interesting issue has appeared however because I am due to leave the Sunshine Coast this Sunday flying to Sydney and then connecting onto another Qantas flight. I now have excessively more luggage then I intended to have when I originally booked the JETSTAR flight out of the sunshine coast. I called Qantas to explain the situation (all booked through Qantas) and the only two options I was presented with was "I'll transfer you to the Jetstar Call Centre" or "Explain at check-in at the airport because the agents there will be able to sell you extra luggage".

2 days later I bit the bullet and decided to log into my Jetstar booking and purchase the extra luggage to avoid catastrophe at the airport and found the maximum allowance of 40kg had been added to my booking. 20kg always existed with the booking of the flight but sometime after the phone call to Qantas the baggage allowance had been maxed out.

Not sure how it happened or who exactly did it but I wanted to share this pleasantly surprising result. Despite baggage being mishandled by American Airlines, Qantas maxed out my baggage allowance on a separate Jetstar booking to accommodate my situation.

Good to hear it has worked out ok.

Sometimes I am amazed that any lost/delayed luggage finds it's way back to owner. I'll never forget the time in ATH expecting delayed luggage and only 1 bag out of 2 arrived earlier in the week. Leaving ATH a few days later checked again to be told no sign of luggage. Any chance they missed it? Was taken to their luggage storage and it was full of bags from top to bottom. After 5 or so minutes I had given up and as I was walking out spotted my bag tag out of the corner of my eye. Amazing luck. Miss it and the bag is never seen again.
