I am seeing good availability in JL business class from Australia to Japan at the time I would like to travel, but as I only joined up with them very recently, I can't buy any points because of the 30 day membership rule.

So eg SYD-HND or Hokkaido for 40k points.

Any solution around this?

You could look into buying/using points in another oneworld program (eg Qantas or one of the Avios programs).

You're going to be paying quite a lot for AA points if you don't get them on sale.

Just make sure that it’s actually available.
AA website well known for phantom awards

Well I have checked and they are genuine, but I can't buy them in any other way it seems.
Might now be looking at getting a redemption to Hong Kong and then an economy redemption to Sapporo.
Virgin do have a seat on NH on two days but just won't fit my work schedule. So frustrating.

Which airline for 40k points in J??

Which airline for 40k points in J??
There's a give-away given this is the AA forum.

I'm curious if they're showing in QFF also? There seems to be either a glitch on QF and/or JLs part but very few if any JL J seats to/from Oz at the moment, but you seem them into and out of Japan from elsewhere (eg Asia, HNL etc).

most likely JL using AA miles. its a very nice spot for AA miles compared to other programs and I believe they have almost no surchage as well.

I'd check if they're actually bookable before committing to anything. There has been loads of phantom F JL seats that showed on both AA and QF that can't be booked - it'll just error. Then the fact that JL J on SYD - HND has been exceptionally rare these days as well.
