Gold status aquired after flight booked

I feel like this is a very "well duh" kind of comment but I'll ask it none the less :).

I want to redeem points for an economy flight from EU --> AU. If I obtain gold status via the HSBC credit card deal a few months later, I assume the benefits of the gold status will apply to this previously redeemed flight?

Sure, However, you may have to call up and get them to remove your frequent flyer number and then re-insert it.

I know SQ’s IT has it foibles, but is it that dumb?
 
Multiple airlines have this problem
Yet, they’re often quite to take benefits away if you change FF details from one with status to one without (many reports here of peeps loosing seat selection etc….😔).
