Gold on both QF and DJ or go Platinum on one?

I'm currently requalified for DJ Gold and with a bit of international travel With my new job I'm about 100 points short of gold on QF. My year on QF runs till July 31.

I have a trip to NZ coming up in two weeks (Y over, J return) and then a trip to London in June which will be PE both ways. Both flights on QF.

So, I can easily make Gold on QF with those flights. i then have probably two return trips a month domestically from Sydney to Melbourne or Canberra. then the occasional Brisbane and Adelaide trip. I can take these flights in Y and not one of the lower status credit paying fares.

Im interested in thoughts on whether I should go for platinum on one and revert and let the other go down a level.

I prefer Qantas for OS travel, and I think I prefer DJ for domestic. I just love the Sydney gold valet and express entry. I also like their priority boarding.

I think I can easily keep gold on both going forward with the international travel I do on QF and maybe the occasional status run, and I can easily do enough domestic stuff on DJ to requalify.

Are their benefits for me to go to Platinum on one of them? I'm interested in members thoughts.

I would suggest maintain Gold on both over the next 12 months and see which you prefer flying with.

Certainly WP with Qantas is nice for the additional FF points, slightly better seat selection and access to the First lounges in SYD & MEL, but if you're not going to use the extra luggage allowance then I really don't see a significant difference between QF SG & WP.
It also depends on where you mainly travel OS - with the recent alliance changes between QF & BA, and QF & EK that still need to be clarified you may decide differently in 12 months time.

I would personally go for WP on just one. First lounge access, better award access and better seat selection on dom trips.

If your someone who likes variety, don't go for plat.

If your international travel is mainly to NZ & London velocity probably has more frequency. I would really recommend trying VS to London their lounges really make the trip.


On the other hand The QF Dom J & Int F lounges are really something.
And pretty much anywhere outside NZ,London, south east Asia & Pacific QF is more convenient.

Gold on both = lounge access with worldwide on both carriers plus partners. Platinum not worth it IMHO if you split travel with both QF and VA frequently.

I'd go for platinum on QF, my reasoning being the status will be more valuable on those long haul flights, and who knows you may even get a double SC or some kind of offer with VA to still push you up to gold. But it's a difficult call when VA's benefits are working so well for you.

I am a bit torn. I sometimes think I will have a crack at QF Platinum, and then I think maybe I should keep both. I generally like to fly international on Qantas so the F lounge access and priority for points upgrades would be quite a benefit.

Maybe now I have learned about status runs, I can go QF Platinum and DJ Gold!

Go gold on both - then with a domestic trip you can use the VA Lounge and the QP (where they exist) at both ends, depending on your mood.
