I've just been comped for my Gold renewal. My year ends on April 30th but I have a JASA booked for next week that will requalify me legitimitely. Next year I have buckley's chance of requalifying as we are doing a OWE (140,000) so I was hoping I may manage to be comped in April 2015 (of course this wasn't a given). When I requalify next week, will this be recognised by Qantas? Otherwise, it's a shame to blow 16,000 points.

Yes it will be recognised by Qantas that you did requalify in your own right.

I would not be surprised if the answer to this is "no". I had the same situation a couple of years ago. They comped me Gold a couple of weeks early, I made it by myself anyway, but then the following year I didn't make it and they dropped me to Silver (which I qualified for anyway).
I don't know if this is the official policy or not but that is what happened to me.

A few years ago I was comped Platinum two years running ~8 weeks early. Qualified Platinum both times before year end.

Take note you may not get a comp next year if your SC balance is low. Who knows for sure though?

Thanks all
While I know it isn't a done deal, I just hate to think that I would be totally out of the running next year.

Whether you use a comp the year before or not has no real bearing on getting one the next year, it all comes down to your average SC levels for the past three years.

Sadly I was not comped this year and have dropped to SG. With the budget cuts I am unlikely to ever get there again (I did have 2 years of "heaven" at the heady level of WP but have never been comped at all). Such is life….

hi markis10. I was qualified gold for 4 years in a row and as soon as I didn't make it they dropped me! Which made me think it was because of that last "comped" gold. Mind you , I only ever made it just over 600 status credits each year, never way over. In addition the year before I did qualify I was within 5 credits of gold and got stuck on silver.

Anyway I have well and truly qualified velocity gold now so at least I have something to console me till may 2015.
