I think you would be correct in that regard...

I would assume that Int'l QP's are higher risk given the self service alcomohol.

Frankly this is just bureaucracy gone mad. Easier to have "action" than providing a solution that might upset some interest groups...

High-risk venues include all those that provide entertainment, are allowed to trade past 3am or have a history of violent incidents.

...

The Qantas Club and Club Lounge, along with the Chairman's Lounge, will be affected by the new legislation, which will be enforced by the end of the year.
OK, so which of the three things identified in the first part of the quote above apply to the Qantas Club and Chairman's Lounge to have them defined as "high-risk" venues? I have not seen much entertainment provided (apart from Sky News and Sky Sports on the TVs). I am not aware of any Qantas Club or Chairman's Lounge trading past 3am. And I cannot remember any recent incidents that could be identified as a "history of violent incidents" at the Qantas lounges.

Oh I dunno...those FT AGMs get a bit rowdy! :p

Seriously, I suspect (hope) some common sense may prevail and this ban won't be applicable to the QP - the idea of including the QP is ludicrous.

They aren't a restaurant but a bar serving snacks and handing out drinks, not targeted at Qantas but their lounge I guess meets the criteria set down as a potential high risk venue. (like a social football club, has a bar, little food, need to be a member, open at night - but the criteria fails to differentiate between someone spending an hour at a bar before their flight to someone sitting in a bar watching football for 4 or 5 hours with 100 others on a Saturday afternoon/night)

They are licensed to trade past 3am, but don't

From their license extract on OLGR (Liquor licensing in Queensland)
OLGR liquor licence search details (Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing)
Trading hours description:
05:00 AM to 12:00 AM Monday - Sunday MAIN PREMISES
12:00 AM to 03:00 AM Monday - Sunday MAIN PREMISES

There is a much simpler solution. Stop serving alcohol to drunk kids who want to be treated as adults.

I walked into Conrad Jupiters around midnight on Friday night and the first thing I saw was a young(ish) girl running across the room, with a drink in her hand, shouting at her friend. Why is she being served alcohol? Why aren't security doing their job? The same happens at Brisbane Casino. Loud wasted kids who are bored and have no idea what they are doing and carrying on like morons all night.

I used to go the Regatta on a Wednesday night. No more. They started serving me alcohol in a plastic cup. No thanks....

I would have thought that the BNE QP would only have this as an issue one Saturday in February each year :!:

Though I can't find any info on one for Feb 2010.

The article states there are three criteria that may be constitute a venue being considered high risk. Being a bar that provides snacks and drinks is not one of the stated criteria for being defined as high risk.

But as Mal has pointed out, their license allows "trading" beyond 3am, so that would be the only one of the criteria that would slot them into the high-risk definition.

Won't it look a little silly if they take away the glasses but leave those self-serve wine bottles within reach of the marauding QP members? Or will those bottles have to go back to the fridge?

And don't forget those deadly plastic knives

I wonder what would happen if you had a 4am flight and got stuck in the QP cause it was after the 3am lockout!. Plastic glasses indeed..where is greenpeace.. mind you they'll probably have us drinking out of tetra pacs next..like little mini gooney bags..:D

I agree that just a weeny little bit of common sense is needed...not a lot..just enough for at least one person to think it all the way through...

Queensland..perfect one day...twilight zone the next..:?:

Wow, incredibly stupid.

I do agree that some (most) night clubs should have plastic glasses, because the crowd they attract is the crowd that things glassing other patrons is acceptable behaviour. But has there ever been a glassing incident in a QP?

What is the world coming to? Next year they might start banning glass in your own home, incase a family BBQ gets out of hand :p

Have you tried the plastic knives in the Auckland lounge, they are so bendy like rubber I used a spoon to butter my toast.

Hahaha. :D

Surely the more cynical amongst us aren't thinking that QF welcome the restrictions as if the bottles go back in the fridge they are less likely to be emptied....
