Gin!

Hi all, I get the current craze with gins. But I have a question for all the people who have such a focus.

I often get asked what gin is the best to buy. Invariably from people who are not gin-savants. I always go with my personal favorite - Bombay Sapphire. My question is that is there another mainstream gin that people would consider superior to Bombay Sapphire, in that price margin? And if so, why? ( Iam taliking for normal people who want to make a coughtail - not gin connoisseurs)

I'm another that prefers Tanqueray to Bombay Sapphire. I find it irritating that people that are supposedly fussy about their gin are not fussy about their tonics and put Schweppes Diet tonic in a very nice gin - it just destroys it.

Slightly off topic but these distilleries all need to have ethanol fumes gas detection!

One tiny accident and these places can go Kaboom!

Being such a craft industry safety isn't high on the list it seems.

(I know as I'm in the gas detection industry)

One flash and you're ash mate.
LEL probably isn't that bad though, usually they are in big buildings haha.

I think in some ways the diet tonic isn't as forward as the full sugar ones, however, nothing beats a good cloudy tonic.

After moving to the UK my gin intake has significantly increased.

The wife and I keep an eye out for specials at the local Asda and Sainsburys and like to try something new each time. So far, my favorite go to is Sipsmith dry which is available in Dans for about $80 or Ā£23 in the UK :) I've seen it for decent price at Dubai duty free for the 1L and it's also available at the QF LHR lounge gin bar.

Other favorites are Caorunn and Bloom, both worth a try if you come across them.

I'll have to look those up, I find my Gin intake is pretty stable irrespective of my particular location.
It's always high. šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

A new drink for me...Sloe Gin.

Quite different but not bad for sipping

Ink Sloe & Berry Gin is an antipodean take on the classic English sloe gin recipe.

The base gin was distilled with some of Ink Ginā€™s star players - juniper berry, coriander, angelica and liquorice root. The flavour base continues to build with a tart infusion of sloe berries (actually a fruit) and this tartness is balanced by an explosion of sweet red berries.

The final ingredient in Ink Sloe and Berry Gin is Australian rosella flowers. Growing wild on the fringes of tropical rainforest of northern Australia, rosellas are a type of hibiscus flower. They have a vibrant colour and a crisp, tart flavour to balance the sweeter botanicals in Sloe & Berry.

Sitting at the traditional Sloe Gin strength of 26% alcohol, Ink Sloe & Berry is a refreshing lower strength ā€œDrink Less - Enjoy Moreā€ option - perfect for sipping on the rocks.

My Tahitian Lime tree is overflowing with fruit

With more time at home I tend to have a G&T most afternoons and use a wedge of lime.

What do you put in your G&T...lemon, lime or nothing ?

Lime is preference but I used to have a prolific lime tree and have since moved so I put up with whatever I can cadge off friends. The lemon tree where I'm renting now is still a way off giving me anything much

Mostly lime, sometimes lemon peel or cucumber slices.

I donā€™t want to start panic buying similar to the TP saga but...

Has anyone thought about the fact that because some of the distilleries are now making much needed hand sanitiser, there could possibly be a world wide shortage of gin !
