I'm sure this has been answered somewhere here but can prepaid visa/mastercards be bought in denominations greater than $100? Or do I need to buy a reloadable card?

Ok, i think its fairly certain you cant buy a wish card with egift card now. but other gcs worked for me in the same transaction. thats a shame...

I went to Big W and there was a double points offer so I bought a pile of Lindt Easter eggs and paid with a 5% off gift card.
Doing petrol on the cheap Monday in Perth I go gift card,Woolies Rewards card and Myer One card. With that 3 points a dollar Platinum Edge Amex I think it gets me a combined 20 cents off the retail price.

a friend tried the auto machines at auspost a couple of weeks ago and said no, blocked by the machine

Hi,

completely new to the party but it seems not a lot flexible options left for giftcards purchase.
Just wondering what's people go to giftcards if you don't have an immediate plan to buy or tax bill to pay? Cheers.

the auto machines still used to accept it, till recently.
the staff haven't accepted it for maybe 18-24 months

I buy $100 visa one cards from Woolworths with 5% discount using Platinum edge at 3 points per dollar
$100 + $5.95, less 5% = $100.65
Cost 65 cents above face value for 302 points.
Good for me as retiree with limited point earn opportunities.

I use Visa one cards for bills like doctor, dentist , utilities, ISP, etc.
Also in restaurants and other places where they don't accept Amex, have higher surcharge for Amex, or where Amex is accepted but earning would only be 1 point per dollar.

If I use my bank issued master card or visa, points earn converted to frequent flyer programs is much lower.

V1s won't work with ATO anymore. You either go with Rewards Pay with Explorer or be creative about V1s. I am unsure if theperfectgiftcard range works with post office.

Thanks everyone for the input. I did read through the thread and my generalisation is that you can buy gc when on sales, VS1 for general spends at Visa merchants. I might have missed others so I'll give it another peruse.
It seemed VS1 used to be the most flexible with the ability to use with Bank@post. However that's been disabled and now that ATO is off the list of VS1 as well, I'm just wondering if there's another venue for the card.

I'm thinking of paying Medibank premiums using Amex>V1 cards (using the postbillpay option to break it into lots of $100). Has anyone done this? (Just worried that either postbillpay might get coughty about multiple payments to the same biller, or that Medibank might not like it.)

I'm struggling to find $100 V1 in my WA woolies to be honest.
Just ensure that the Medibank system increases your coverage by the right amount of days. I paid around $1500 in 15x$100 VISA cards last year and had to chase up my PHI as their system was rounding down to whole days, so I was missing around 2 weeks of coverage.

I had always suspected there was some rounding down occurring but have chosen to ignore it. Thanks for confirming. I think I will stop paying my health insurance in $100 lots.
