Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Yes I believe so too.
However in my search. They have either not accepted Amex or had hefty charges.

Also using gift cards to buy gift cards don't work at Coles any more. (in my experience)

That was my understanding too. No real workable/attractive Amex option for discounted Coles gift cards.

In September 2016, I used about $800 worth of Coles GCs (collected from the Coke old rewards program) to purchase $800 worth of JB Hi Fi GCs.

Last weekend I purchased a $200 WW eGC for $190 and in turn bought a 2 x $100 JB GCs instore at WW. Checkout chick asked her supervisor if this is allowable? Lol of course it is.

5% off at JB Hi-Fi / Myer / David Jones + More by Using Woolworths eGift Cards from Cash Rewards

You can use coles gift cards to buy third party gift cards (JB, Bunnings, SCA etc) but not to buy another Coles group gift card.

You cannot use Flybuys dollars to buy any type of gift card whatsoever.

We need to buy a r/c aircon for my daughter’s little flat. How and where could I maximise gift card purchases to augment the HN current $100 AMEX I registered. Ent book not much use. People have mentioned cash rewards, is that the way to go?

HN tend to charge their franchisees about 18% before the air conditioner is on the market. For air conditioners you need mostly come out of Asia so have a good look around and buy closer to the landed cost.

What are people's thoughts on the Accor GC offer? I see on another thread that some members have had problems using them; seems to suggest that they may only be used on fully flexible rates?

I have a $100 Accor gift card still in my possession and is about expire but I have sent off email and have received a 6 month extension.

Can only be used on fully flexible rates is a huge negative as I don't need flexible bookings. There have been reports of people booking hotel stays directly with hotel and using gift card to prepay stays but that's not a viable option for most.

I argued successfully in May for a hotel to honour gift cards with prepaid stay but I'm not going through that again. I found a hotel in Brisbane with a flexible rate of just over $100 and I will stay there in the new year and extend Accor points another 12 months.

This thread has been a little quiet hope I’m posting this in the right place.

Haven’t seen the purple MC GCs at Coles for a while & seen the Visa1s in stock so assumed this product had been withdrawn.

Was just at my local Coles and found some New Coles MC GCs in Blue packaging. $5 activation fee (vs $5.95 for Visa1).

Bought them with Coles Group GCs bought with recent Amex offer. Tried at self checkout and they have a similar system to WOW where attendant has to authorize the purchase of GCs manually. Split payments with GCs not available at self checkout (attendant will tell you GC payment not available at all but they humored me and it worked). Split payments can be made at the service counter. Looks like success is dependent on staff goodwill given the need for their intervention. GC for exact amount including activation fee may reduce the need for staff intervention outside of need for supervisor authorization.

Thought might be of interest to those buying Coles GC esp with 5% off.

Any chance of a pic Albyd so we know what to look for?

Also what denominations were available?

Note sure whether it has been mentioned previously, but noticed some ebay gift cards in stock at Coles last week - $50 denomination only. Not sure of limitations when redeeming - but could be handy for stacking with eStore (Qantas/Virgin) portals and linked flybuys.

They come in $50 and $100 denominations. Here's what the packaging looks like as well as the card itself.

I remember them being around at the time of the last 1k flybuys per card offer-once only per household :(
They seem to function the same as the old magenta ones

IME with FB$ it acts as a savings card at the end of the transaction. What happened in your experience? (I was not buying gift cards but to me it didn't seem different to a regular transaction)

IME, it just won't accept the swipe of the FB card as a method of payment-even for part of the total

ok cool thanks. I'm fairly sure i have used fb$ to buy phone credit in the past, unsure if it triggers differently to gift cards.

Today's the first day of the Coles 2K flybuys for a $100 Only1 Visa catalogue offer (one per household :(). My local champ store only had 3 in stock this morning

I checked my two locals and they have lots of $50 ones, but no $100 cards. Shame that the deal only applies to the $100 cards.

Local Coles didn't have any and said they'd ordered some more.

Silly me was at the local Leagues club Friday night and they have $50, $100 and $200 Visa Only One cards. Looks like the activation fee on the $200 version is $7.05 or $7.95? It was a little dark.
