I am hoping to be in Melbourne in mid April and see that the Hilton on the Park has a rate of $154 for 15/4 to 20/4 on a couple of travel websites. The rate is “stay 3, get 30% off.” But the Hilton website and a phone call shows either $167 or $181 per night I would prefer to get HHonours points by booking through the Hilton site but I think I am better off with the lower rate than the points.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your reply, serfty.

I think the $167 rate was for one person and the $181 was for 2 people. My travelling companion will be my husband, so I assume that brings in the spouse stays free benefit. But we are still looking at $ 13 x 5 = $ 65.

Are the Hhonours points worth paying extra for?

It depends. What's your HHonors status?

It may be more than just HHonors points - If you are diamond or gold there is far more than $13 value in the guaranteed free breakfast, free internet and, for diamond, lounge access.

These bennies are not guaranteed unless booked via Hilton phone/websites.

If you are sure the rate on the travel websites are exactly the same as those on Hilton, you could try for a HHonors Best Rate Guarantee. If successful, this would lock in the benefits (if applicable) and provide an even cheaper rate.

Personally, as a Diamond, I would not hesitate and book on the Hilton website - the BRG seems pretty hit and miss.

If you have some HH points, maybe points + cash is a way to go (if available at the HoP)

I am a silver honours member with less than 3000 points left. I redeemed points in Shanghai recently.
I am not sure which is the best way for me to go. The email specials never seem to apply to my requirements.
I must look into the HHonors Best Rate Guarantee to see how that would apply.

Thanks to serfty. You are a real asset to this forum. I am now Hhonours GOLD and will be trying to finalise my flight dates as soon as possible so I can make use of my new status.
