General Virgin Australia Lounge Discussion

Why shouldn’t abstainers be able to have a choice of drinks too?
Never said anywhere that they can’t.
I was replying to the poster that said they enjoyed a Heineken and I was purely pointing out that they don’t serve the real stuff.

Love your wee pic there...reminds me of happy days on British Midland....often! 😁

Because they're in the geat minority. Be thankful there's at least one drink for them.
You’d be surprised. 57% of adults in the world do not drink, and 23% of adult Australians don’t. Of those who do drink alcohol, a great number are only occasional drinkers.

And a large percentage can't afford to drink and a large % also lie on whatever surveyed you may be reading that they don't drink.

I became a specialist because in a physician's exam I didn't believe a fellow's estimate of his alcohol intake. His 2 drinks a day turned out to be 2 5 litre flagons of port a day. The fellow had Rheumatoid arthritis and his specialist was one of the examiners. He was a Professor of Immunology in Adelaide. So I spent all my time on how this intake would impact his RA treatment. I didn't get 1 question. At the end the Professor said Thank you drron I never knew that but it explains perfectly the problems I have had in treating his case.
Why didn't I believe him? He lived a very short distance from Basedow's winery which I had visited on the way to Adelaide.

Yes, out of everyone I know, including work colleagues, family & friends, I can only think of one person out of probably 80 or so who does not drink when socialising (they used to but quit). I am not saying that's an accurate cross-section of the community, but it's the minority within the Australian community, from my observation (or circle).
Heck, I have lied to my doc about drinking when asked, because well, I want to look like an angel ;)
So yes, that happens (don't judge me lol).
Also, no point bringing in world drinking stats, pointless when you have third world countries with millions of poor people who can barely afford food (I agree), we are talking about drinking in the lounge, within Australia.

Darwin terminal redevelopment has this frosted glass section with a familiar looking flag design visible on the left side of the image:

I was last in the QP in DRW about two years ago and I note that lounge has shifted locations. Can any Darwin locals confirm whether this is something new? It was to the right after coming through security and up the stairs; maybe opposite gates 3-4-5 kind of area.

Nothing new, obviously was the old VA lounge prior to covid. During covid when VA permanently shut the Darwin lounge it turned into an airport staff room and has remained as such ever since.

Considering the company is making healthy profits, hopefully we might see some capex allocated to lounges in the coming years. I know we will probably never see new locations again, but just the existing fleet will do.

There will be no new lounges if Bain Capital has anything to do with it. The Sydney lounge would be at the top of list for a (much needed) upgrade.

I saw the other day managers walking around the Gold Coast lounge with plans/mock-ups of a renovation.
