So I'm planning an overseas trip for the end of this year, and hoping to be QF Platinum in a month!

I know Qantas is fairly friendly in terms of letting in more guests in the lounge (I'm travelling with two younger siblings and parents)...just wondering how people have found other carriers or OW lounges, like the The Wing in HK?

Thanks :)

There is no official One World Lounge access policy for families. It is dependent on the individual carrier and some e.g. BA are very strict with guest access.
Are your siblings children?
If so then I would say that the chances would be greater but not guaranteed. If you are the only member with status and asking to take in 3 adult / adolescent guests over your normal allowance then I think you will have a difficult time.

A few months ago at LHR Terminal 5, BA Lounge denied access for me and 2 children (21 and 14).

Speaking of access, I'll be in DXB with my parents. Does anyone know if I can guest my two parents in F Lounge?

One is a child, the other is a teenager. I was thinking it might be a bit difficult!
I do have a thought though. Would it be possible to take say my parents into the OW F Lounge equivalent, and then exit sometime after and join my siblings at the Business Lounge?

Has anyone had much experience with the number of guests allowed? Just that it would be rather awkward when half a family can go in and not the remaining...

Looks like you'll be sitting outside with the family. Sometimes that's just the way it goes.

I would never only take some in, it's all of none.

All the BP's are scanned or recorded IME. This would likely preclude multiple guesting.
If I were you I would be honest and polite and ask if you can bring in the family. Be prepared for rejection and have a back-up plan.
Shrek and I (both WP) with the 4 kids managed to survive in the LHR T5 terminal after a BA refusal ;)

SYD Flounge can be just as strict. They've knocked me back traveling with wife, 2x kids (under10) and 1 MIL.

Where was the problem??

The Lounge staff assumed you wanted an excuse to leave the MIL outside ;)

An AA 30 day membership or two might be of assistance.

Per the rules you were 1 adult over budget, but I can understand why you couldn't just collect her at the gate later. I'm sure 1 adult (guest) and 2 kids would be fine.

While I realise BA has rules and follows them strictly, their child policies are absurd and for families I can't imagine it promotes much loyalty to the brand. Though I guess, not a lot of alternative these days.

I had a friend who is OWE (with AA I think) travel with his two kids (8-12 age range) from the US to SIN via NRT. At NRT, JAL would not allow him more than one guest into the lounge, child or not. He was able to get into an AA lounge there, even though I think the flight was NRT-SIN with JAL.

Just an anecdote; as with everything, there are other experiences and each person's mileage may vary.

Correct. Leaving the MIL at the gate would have seen me enjoying a very lonely holiday......daughters and their mothers!

No problem - I still went into the Flounge:D

BA does seem very tough with this policy. My experience with BA lounges is filled with disgraceful staff with poor attitudes......whether it be the LHR CCR or T3 Flounge

CX are brilliant - have had no issues taking the MIL in HKG on many occasions.

Can I jump in...we are both Platinum (sounds so good to say that and just achieved) and travelling J next year from London to Milan and then Milan to Washington with BA....our daughter who we are picking up in London is coming with us but travelling in Y...are you saying that we will not be able to guest her into the lounge ?

No - you'll be fine. In fact, you can guest another person due to both being Plat.

BA have a one guest policy.......so a typical family with a couple of kids are snookered!

Phew that's great, I could imagine her face if we could not get her in...thanks

Thanks for the replies! So anecdotally, it seems that QF and CX are pretty ok for families, but BA doesn't care?

I think I'll just try my luck and see how busy the lounge is on the day or how nice QF is :)

many of the larger airport have 2 one world lounges, depending upon where you fly, you may have children in different lounges, for example QF and BA in SIN. Failing this, I would simply buy an AA 30 day pass for one of your kids, this is great for a status person travelling with three non status members as the one time - with the AA 30 day pass usually can bring a guest as well.

If you have enough points, upgrade a non status member of the family to J class.
