General Medical issues thread

I had my follow up today. Solutionsf or pain control were back on Endone. No I want to keep driving. Try Palexia - I had it after surgery and had 36 hours of delusions and hallucinations. So told only way is a total hip replacement. Major surgery now in a 79 year old wit h many comorbidities plus my luck in 2026. No not this year.

@drron
It is always sobering how a # can dramatically change the trajectory.

I just saw a 90 yr old patient today who had a simple fall and # the tubercle off the shoulder (humerus). Due to lingering chronic pain she got reactive depression as she can't play her usual tennis with her friend and now has been told she needs a Total shoulder replacement (which I suspect will still mean she can't play tennis)

People should start engaging with ACAT (SAS as it's called now) early on ………. when ??

This very sobering conversation has me considering options as with age , the distance between rooster and chicken has a range of possibilities, some quite unpalatable…... 🫣

Different for everyone

Difficulties with daily activities of living
Can't drive anymore - failed driving test
Memory lapses
Falls
A significant hospital admission or a new medical diagnosis which makes managing harder
Several significant medical issues
On lots of pills
Sometimes it could be due to loss of domestic partner who has been doing the daily chores for you.

Blargh managed to pick up a horrendous cough while traveling, gave it 10 days of misery (including post tussive vomits ew) before starting doxycyline, no improvement, changed to amoxicillin, ditto ... now hearing the USA (where I sadly had to transit through) has a resistance rate of over 30% to them! Horrible.

So ... hoping it's viral and eventually goes away :s
