Checking my online immunisation records today (no Covid vax since May 22 - no longer a believer) I notice a heading 'Next NIP immunisation due' on my recent birth date. Under is listed 'Pneumococcal vaccines'. Any medicos care to comment about exactly what this is for and how it might differ to the influenza vax. Something us old farts need to consider?

There appears to be an increase in invasive pneumococcal disease. It causes pneumonia, meningitis, blood sepsis especially in "old farts" and the very young.
See this fact sheet. Immunsation have reduced Invasive pneumococcal disease, however there has been a surge in the last year or so of invasive pneumococcal possibly from evolving strains, antibiotics resistance, vaccination fatique.

Thank you both. I read up on each but sought to get your aditional take as it is also helpful for other AFFers.
Back to hospital next week for another angiogram. Last December my cardio thought when he ballooned stents in the circumflex and marginal arteries it might be good for 9 or so yrs. I did have my doubts at the time. Just hoping I don't pick up one of these whilst I am there.

Edit: As MrsP is not allowed to drive now I have checked the bus timetable. In order to arrive at NBH at the nominated 7am I need to catch a bus at 0553. It will take an hour for what is a 10m car ride

There are 2 funded by YourGov: The 13 Valent and the 23 Valent
The 13V one is the one for Nonindigenous >70 and the 23V is for indigenous >50. Why not just one type ? I don't know - possibly cost?

The 13V is a conjugate meaning that a little bit of the polysaccharide bits of cell wall is bound to a carrier protein

The 23V is a polysaccharide meaning just a little bit of polysaccharide Components of the cell wall not conjugated to anything.

Nothing special between conjugate or polysaccharide as far as I know - it's just how it's made.

I have not had any boosters since May 2022. I still have a strong feeling the MRNA vaccine might have been the cause of the aggressive cancer I had in my chest. Yes, I know I have canvassed the idea I might have carried the follicular cancer for decades, but the DLBCL I had in my chest was suggested to be mutated follicular lymphoma cells.
Speaking of which I am coming up to two years treatment for the follicular lymphoma and tomorrow I have my final rituximab infusion. Yippee!

They are sorting out the recommendations and I think "emergency measures" no longer exists so any Covid vaccine should be approved using the usual mechanisms - they are not yet approved in this way AfAIK

And I did post on AFF during Covid that a group of researchers in Belgium had found and followed up all people ,about 120000.
Those that got a conventional vaccine had an all cause mortality 50% less than controls.
But those that had an MRNA vaccine had a 20% increase in all cause mortality compared to controls.

Now I know that study of itself is not proof. I was waiting for someone to monitor vaccinations to see if that could be confirmed or denied. I have not seen such studies. Governments should have that ability to do that research.

Then since Covid we have seen an increase worldwide of sudden death and everyone saying Why is it happening. But we know especially in younger males a complication can be myocarditis and a complication of that can be a cardiac arrhtymia causing sudden death.

There has been a paper released by the Florida Health department comparing 1.47 million who took the Pfizer vaccine with the same number who took the Moderna vaccine. Those who had Pfizer had an all cause mortality over 12 months higher than those who had Moderna.

A total of 1,470,100 vaccinees were matched 1-to-1 based on seven criteria, including census tract. Compared with mRNA-1273 recipients, BNT162b2 recipients had significantly higher risk for all-cause mortality (847.2 vs. 617.9 deaths per 100,000; odds ratio, OR [95% CI]: 1.384 [1.331, 1.439]), cardiovascular mortality (248.7 vs. 162.4 deaths per 100,000 persons; OR [95% CI]: 1.540 [1.431, 1.657]), COVID-19 mortality (55.5 vs. 29.5 deaths per 100,000 persons; OR [95% CI]: 1.882 [1.596, 2.220]) and non-COVID-19 mortality (791.6 vs. 588.4 deaths per 100,000 persons; OR [95% CI]: 1.356 [1.303, 1.412]). Negative control outcomes did not show any indication of meaningful unobserved residual confounding.

So a 37% greater mortality for Pfizer over Moderna.
So I am happy that my vaccine schedule has been 2 Astra zeneca, 1 Moderna as the only other available then was Pfizer and as I was working in a hospital a booster was mandatory, then 2 Novavax.

And at least it is no longer compulsory under 18 but there is really no benefit for healthy young children to have the vaccine,
