General Medical issues thread

My problems are a lot less worrying than some but still annoying. About three days into our recent French holiday I stepped off a kerb in Colmar that was about twice as high as I thought it was. As my left foot kept going down I must have unconsciously curled up my right big toe and had it jammed forward. I had a sudden sharp pain in the toe. It was swollen and sore for a couple of days and I was unable to flex the toe upwards. To cut a long story slightly shorter I wasn't going to stop the holiday for a sore toe and kept walking long distances on it for the next month while hoping that it would improve. And of course it hasn't. It sort of hangs down and while I can put downward pressure on the toe I still cannot lift it up by itself.

An ultrasound today has confirmed that while the tendon has not been completely torn through I have made a very good attempt at doing so. It mostly doesn't worry me. But it occasionally hurts, especially when walking downhill and it feels 'funny' in bare feet. So back to the doctor next week to see what to do.

And to cheer me up more I have had problems with a swollen tendon in one of my fingers that causes pain and a little bit of trigger finger action. A bit of physical therapy and a finger splint has improved it somewhat but not enough. I think a steroi_ injection is now on the cards.

This is going to be a lot harder than I first thought

Just keep repeating to yourself when it gets hard.....this may save my life...

When i got back from our Bangkok trip over Christmas where I often walked 10-19000 steps a day I seized up and could only walk 2-4000 steps a day walking 1-200 steps before I would have to stop due to pain.
I kept going gradually increasing my steps until June when I could now walk 10000 steps a day. The last week of June we had 3 days down on the Gold Coast when I attended a financial conference. We were staying 750 metres from the conference on Google maps. On the second day I could walk there and later walk back without a stop -about 1600 steps.

This month a continued improvement and on Wednesday got to 12000 steps and yesterday 13000 steps and finishing those counts in an hour less time.
So yes it can be done so just stick at it.

This is going to be a lot harder than I first thought. It's not an opinion. It's fact. And I didn't say anything about giving up.

on Wednesday got to 12000

That is great news , I thought we may have lost you.

Sadly time is rolling on and my 10m/km is now more like 11.. but still mostly managing 10k/wk at that pace.
Otoh I am delivering the roof its annual wash atm …white tin roofs show the dirt and grow algae ...
Lugging an 18kg gerni up the extension ladder is still doable so the grim reaper is not completely in charge...

Be careful @tgh , there are apparently more ladder accident patients in A&E than any other accident, or so I was told some years ago. Maybe not now with the advent of e-bikes and e-scooters.

I won't climb a ladder again. I'm too old (>60) and clumsy.

Been there, done that!

Missed the last rung climbing down a ladder! Now sporting a backslab, cracked scaphoid, :( Possible cast for 6 weeks, not happy. At least when I fell backwards, I was telling myself to keep my head up.

Sweden, me on the ladder a long time ago….
