Proposed change to the eligible age for bowel screening​


The Australian Government is considering lowering the eligible starting age of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program from 50 to 45 years. For now, we will continue to send kits to eligible Australians aged 50 to 74.
Beyond 75 we do not consider you a value proposition.

Thankfully changed now
People (not all) are definitely getting into their late 70s and early 80s without being particularly frail these days so may be due a raising of the bar
As an aside I would guess the majority of over 70s (accepting AFF may be skewed) are net recipients of the budget tax dollar
 
My Mother wants a way to not be reminded of Pap smears every x years. She's almost 73 (but if you ever meet her, you can tell her she doesn't look a day over 72! ;) ) and had a hysterectomy over 25 years ago.
I realise the cervix and uterus are different body parts, but her GP agrees it's not worth bothering with smear tests any more.

Has anyone had a reaction to this years flu shot? I got mine Monday afternoon last week. 2 days later had what I thought was the beginning of a head cold. Then quite congested with minimal clear mucus, jelly legs and lymph nodes in neck up and down. Mucus hasn’t changed colour over 6 days and never had allergies before. Maybe an exaggerated response as I got badly glutened 2 weeks ago? no sore throat or cough

I had mine last week and no reaction, hardly even a sore arm.
I hope you're feeling better soon.

I had FluadQuad last week and the same, just a slightly tender arm. This is the one for the over 65, likely the same as yours. Last year, which was the so called milder version, my arm was like lead for a week.
 
Could one of our medicos tell us about (in general) the different types of flus vaxes available? Are they essentially just brand names for essentially the same stuff? Or do they contain different herbs & spices developed to target slightly different mixes of strains?

If different, does ATAGI make any recommendations for people in certain circumstances (age, expected travel, existing health issues)? I know all will be regarded as 'safe' but wondering if any tailoring exists, if you want to look for it?

I should add I got mine at a GP and paid, under 65.
