General Medical issues thread

Your 5th or 6 th in total ( if you don’t mind me asking 😊)?

Only ask because I noticed the flu tracking weekly survey now allows for a sixth dose (as in, have you received it?).
The sixth. Had the fifth bivalent before last OS trip. Seems to be a six month thing now for vulnerable ones. There is a selection for 2023 first booster and second booster.

While not specific to your case,

The General recomendations are Zoster vaccine for Over 50s (who have normal immune system). Or 12 months after Zostavax.
The app used to say I was eligible at 70 years. Now it says 65 as per the new protocols with the shingrix that actually works.

Shingrix now free for over 65 but recommended for all over 50 but at the high cost.
Paid $285 for Shingrix in August, could have waited till November for free but after Shingles ( in eye too) last year, I wasn't prepared to run the risk as we were going overseas.
YMMV, but thought it was $ well spent - again, less loot for Flyfrequently offspring!

I’m seriously peed off about that. I just paid over $600 for the Shringrix and now I’m eligible for the free one 😡
Understandable but suspect Health got caught out when it became publically known that the free one was pretty much ineffective. Not that I could have had a live vaccine anyway. I didn’t get chicken pox until I was in my thirties so I’m not sure what that means if anything for shingles.

@Flyfrequently How long did it take you to recover from shingles in the eye? I deveioped the condition in the first week of August and, given my age, fully expected recovery to be slow, but am now wondering if I should seek referral to an opthamologist.
