General EV Discussion

Is that expected or normal in all hybrids, or is the Kona just partcularly cough?
The combined (engine + electric motor) power of the Kona hybrid is about the same as a Golf

Likely you got it in ECO mode - which tries to just use only the electric motor. This is the problem with hybrids - economising on fuel means you are limited to a tiny electric motor

A full EV is much more responsive because of the bigger electric motor with no need to "save" fuel..

Yesterday we filled up at a 7/11 which has a KFC. Across the road the local small shopping centre has 2 chargers apparently. A Kona finished recharging and sped off. It made more noise than most motorcycles Don’t know what he had done to it but he was very fast very noisy.

He must have washing pegs holding playing cards in place so that they poke into the spokes. IFKYK
Failing that you can buy a device that plays engine sounds through the car radio. Just dial in which engine you'd like.

Only shopping centre I know opposite KFC is Wurtulla, no chargers there

Recent EVS are required to have a Pedestrian warning system (PWS) at low speed - either in forward motion or reverse in shopping centres.
At higher speeds the sounds turn off
The driver can select different sounds or upload their own novelty sound. Tesla sounds include flatulence which gives you an idea of who a subset of Tesla drivers are..

Some people fit an aftermarket Ev noise emitter and make them extra loud.
Those who do, appear to me to be the ones in small hatches who require a size compensation. 🤣
