So I am a little stumped as to where gate 35 is at PVG as my research has it that there is no gate 35.

Was boarding my CX flight out of PVG yesterday, and over the PA system all of a sudden, was this recorded announcement - recorded because it was identical in words and pitch each time, every 60 seconds on que, over any other announcement being made, around 20 times continuously by an American Man in English, saying "Attention Mr. Smith, can you please collect your dog from gate 35"

I have it recorded as a voice memo, but cannot figure out how to upload it. Thought it was a laugh after the third and fourth time, and kinda started to figure it was some code for something from the 10th time and slant more towards it when I cannot find that PVG has a gate 35.

Any other ideas?

Would likely be similar to the old Caroline Calling Number xx at Coles supermarkets. Where xx was a number that reflected an area where all managers on duty would drop everything and go to.
Would have meant something to those who needed to know, but not to adversely effect customers/pax. However the continuous calling may have defeated the purpose.

I got that it must have been code for something - just strange in a Chinese Airport - aka PVG = Shanghai Pudong - why such a code was in English by an American Man and not in mandarin - and why such a call was a recorded message, saved somewhere, ready to go and executed so many times.

Yep, I remember Mr Steed. I use to laugh that they used it so long after I had left, but I haven't heard it in many years, but that might be because I mainly shop at Woolworths nowadays.
