Garuda's massive expansive plans

Garuda Airlines placed orders for 90 new aircraft the other day. This means they now have over 200 aircraft on order.

We can expect to see a lot of expansion in coming years at Garuda, including new services to Paris and Frankfurt from next year.

Trouble with Garuda is the Layover in Jakarta is to long over 8 hrs returning to MEL. When this is fixed they will be in the hunt.

Ban was lifted in 2009.

The European Commission currently has the following entry in EC2111/2005 Annex A (which bans all operations from listed airlines) "All air carriers certified by the authorities with responsibility for regulatory oversight of Indonesia, with the exception of Garuda Indonesia, Airfast Indonesia, Mandala Airlines, Ekspres Transportasi Antarbenua and Indonesia Air Asia."

The 'top 100' isn't safety related. In terms of service, I have no doubt GA is up there with the best now. Some of the trip reports regarding their current First class are pretty cool.

There was a bit of a dip in terms of catering about 10-12 years ago... plastic covers left on meals when given to you, foil left on hot meals (and we're talking business class). But they've pulled themselves up from that. The service (crew) on the other hand has always been very good.

Our company insurance policy still has Garuda on a no fly list so we can't travel on them. That's enough for me to not fly them personally as well.

QF is also not offering Y or F to Bali from anywhere in Australia
The QF group is only offering something called JQ to Bali.

I'd be tempted by cheap Garuda J fares to EU but when there are great UL and QR deals ex Asia I think I would still prefer those alternatives.
