Hi flyers,

I am considering booking with MH again for a return DPS-KUL-CDG for Christmas, they are competitive and I am an Enrich member too.
However how does it work if MH ceases to exist after I booked the tickets (2 pax)?
I heard the new German CEO slashed a heap of jobs and that MH is technically bankrupt.
Would I get a refund?
Is it sage to book and pay now?

Cheers.

I don't know about adding herbs and spices to your booking "Is it sage to book and pay now?" but I wouldn't think that booking with MH especially over the Xmas and into Chinese NY will be unsafe (safe - is this the correct term? Maybe stable would be better).

MH are still a reasonably strong airline and if you look over recent past history, many airlines have been in a similar situation albeit not having had an aircraft go missing and another the victim of a heinous crime.

If the fares are good - book away. If you are nervous, buy travel insurance at the same time.

you'll be fine MH started operating under their new company on 1st sept. I believe their branding and logo etc will be renewed over the coming months I think it will be more positive for MH going forward. I personally have a few MH J flights scheduled for a couple of months a way.

Quite safe. MH is government-owned and the government will not allow it to just close-up. They are insisting on its not losing as much money, so staff are being sacked and some routes dropped.

I have no problems booking with them at all. They're trimming the fat, so to speak, and I think most of it's done now.

Absolutely. Malay pride alone will keep the airline operating. Got a few tickets myself. A German CEO is a good choice IMHO. Bring some time discipline at least. Their biggest challenge is probably institutional corruption. Look at how South African turned around once dealt with

If you pay by credit card you should be covered anyway, as people were with AN.

I'm flying them SYD-KUL-HKT next week and have every confidence that its all good. I had a long chat to one of their Sydney based execs a while back and she gave me confidence all was going to be fine for MH in the future.

Thought I would bump this thread rather than start another, and I wonder if there has been any change in opinions on MH's future since September. I have 2 bookings SYD - LHR in June and july, both J awards through QFF.

When I made the bookings I had no issue at all, pretty happy to get a J award in a peak time. Since then, however, consumer the reviews on sites like Skytrax have gone from supportive to almost universally bad, and from what I can see on AFF on time performance is pretty woeful - also the subject of a lot of those bad reviews along with cost cutting measures.

Should I be worried?

I flew 2 weeks ago MEL-SIN in business class, first time on MH since April. I didn't notice too much difference to before, more than acceptable, not in the league of SQ or CX, but still quite good. As far as the catering went probably one of the nicer meals I've had in business class, I did chef on call with lamb cutlets on pea mash with assorted vegetables. Lamb was tender, neither over nor under cooked and generous serve of vegetables. Salmon entree, with nice salty capers which complemented the salmon well and really nice chilli chocolate dessert (sort of mousse). Had three champagnes by the time the meal arrived, so can't complain about drink service either. We had 3hr connection in KUL to SIN, leaving at 23:00 so we went to F lounge and slept a bit in the sleeper rooms equipped with single beds.

But the thing is with MH, it can be both station and crew dependent.

I did 4x short J flights with MH in November and I found the crew and the food the best I have experienced on MH.
To me there was renewed sense of momentum and motivation amongst the crew, generally got the feeling they were happy to be there.

Thanks, that is reassuring.
