I figure that every WP comes from some business funded flights. Has anyone ever reached WP by self funding the entire lot?

I work for myself so does that count?

I know a few people on AFF pay for all their own flights and are WP.

I "self funded" a DONE4 for $8k which earned 2160 SC's. When combined with work travel I was WP for 2 years as the trip straddled my anniversary date.

Since then I have always earned well over than the required 1200 SC through personal travel although each "year" since, work related flights have been responsible for up to 500 SCs.

I made platinum for the first time last year with 1415 SC. Work funded 20 of those SC and I got a tax deduction on another 300 odd SC. This year will be entirely self funded with a few tax deductions along the way.

Business funded flights? That is so last century! :(

Yeah, me for one. Getting there is one thing though; devising ways and means of retaining Platinum draws on skills in creative accounting, lateral thinking and spousal persuasion, among others. ;)

Have about 11,000 LT SCs and been WP for 5yrs straight now.
Having done 3 DONE4s plus a few *Class jaunts in that time, am over half self-funded.

Mind you if it wasn't for this site probably would have spent just as much on flights, but have no near the number of SCs

I'm a fully self funded, mainly fly Y and Y+ to Asia, with a couple of QF codeshare J trips in the pacific, and some dom JASAs , no work trips at all. It does make for an expensive year in travel costs, but I enjoy traveling/flying so it's worth every penny. Plus with tips from AFFers getting to WP was a lot easier.

Well I'm solely studying so I'm definitely entirely self funded. Even if I did travel for study (though at most that would be on Rex) it still comes from our own pockets.

Here I am thinking how easy it must be when somebody pays for you or there are some tax breaks. Reality is probably more the lack of time to fly to where you want.

Places like this site have certainly helped to capitalise on the systems in place.

Yes.

My wife and myself.

As arraitch says though 'Getting there is one thing though; devising ways and means of retaining Platinum draws on skills in creative accounting, lateral thinking and spousal persuasion, among others. ;)'

Myself and mrsdrron are self funded-she 100% and WP,me 98% and AA plat.

100% self funded...all for leisure and have made WP for the last 6 years all from a creative DONE4 and Red E domestic between Melbourne and Brisbane:)

Mine is about 98% work travel. Only one MEL - SYD trip was personal. That was an ASA trip. I sped it up by paying to UG to J on my TSV trip (was too cheap to pass up). My PG gain will be off the back of a couple of JASA trips in the next 6 weeks

Out of my first WP year of 1790 SC's, work funded a total of 110SC's of that.

This year for my re-qual, I'll end the year around 1590 SC's. Work funded 135 of those.

For 8 years prior, I was entirely self funded and constantly fell around 100SC's of keeping gold on a purely domestic deep-discount whY basis. Thanks to AFF, I'm now able to keep my WP for what I consider to be a reasonable cost, based on the benefits it affords me on my travels.

Not too much work-funded or study-funded travel here; it's not regular at all and I'd be lucky if I get 80 SCs out of such travel. Next year I might get 100 or 120 SCs.

Other than that, the rest is by myself. Yes, I'm always looking for cheap ways to retain it, whilst combining interesting travel on the side.

Fully self funded for my current year and current bookings will repeat that for next year*. All for leisure.

* Actually, my kids say it's coming out of their inheritance, so maybe "self funded" is slightly in doubt.

Yes.
Spousal persuasion, among others. ;)'

All about Carrot and Cake.. Its a choice of which one to wave.
I'm lucky that partner now has the same interest in aviation like I do.

Although I struggle to say no . :D

Fully self-funded. Hit WP for my first year, and about to requalify for my 2nd year.

Never would have reached or retained WP if it wasn't for all the advice here on AFF :)

Fully self funded WP here, all trips leisure, will be PG in a month or so. :)

This is fairly recently attained, retention will be interesting.

Entirely self-funded leisure travel, but I don't have a spouse to justify it to! I suspect my friends think I'm crackers though.
