Folks,
I am travelling shortly on a Frequent flyer award ticket. I paid for the Taxes & Levies using my Amex Platinum credit card. Question is, should I purchase seperate travel insurance? When I called Amex, they advised that as long as I have used Membership miles to redeem my flights and paid the taxes via Amex I would be covered. trouble is, I have used some membership reward miles for the singapore airlines ticket and used qantas miles for the qantas ticket! How have you guys addressed this previously?

Personally I buy seperate travel insurance even though I have AMEX insurance too.

But saying that I need a higher level because of coverage I need at the snow.

Read the PDS carefully! I nearly got stung by AMEX. In my scenario, I paid for a ticket minus a $150 gift voucher from Qantas, but this meant I was not eligible for insurance.

So now I just have an annual policy to deal with it.

Thank You for the feedback. GIven my tickets are made up of Frequent flyer miles outside of AMex membership rewards I would fall into the same category. Have puchased a policy from Travel Insurance Direct.

Good move. I always purchase comprehensive travel insurance even though most times I am covered by the credit card.

Did you miss my post on a 10% discount for Travel Insurance Direct? I you have not already purchased the travel insurance PM me and I will give send you the discount. Which reminds me I should purchase my new yearly asap before the 10% discount expires....
