My Frequent Flyer account was hacked recently. When I checked it 2 weeks ago, I was shocked to see my points had been used by an unknown.
They booked a ticket one day and then the next day did the flight!
I did not know this could happen!
I am still waiting for the airline to credit my points back. They tell me they are investigating.

Apparently from what I read online, FFlyers had been targeted by hackers.

Has this happened to anyone else here in Australia recently? It is terrible and I am shocked!

Hi izbork, and welcome to AFF.

Are you willing/able to tell us which airline's FF program this occurred was with? Some programs do seem to be a little open to such fraud more than others. There was some discussion a little while back about how people could reset/change the account PIN/Password just by knowing the FF account number and surname, which is clearly printed on most boarding passes. For this reason, I am always careful to ensure I do not leave any boarding passes behind on the plane or elsewhere.

Please let us know the eventual outcome of the airline's investigation.

Welcome aboard izbork. As noted by NM it would help to have some more details.

Also, have you used free Wi Fi to acess your account? This is very risky and password theives often seek to harvest such details for nefarious activities.

I am waiting to see if it has happened to anyone else here in Australia with their frequent flyer accounts. That is why I posted the message online.
I NEVER EVER leave a boarding pass anywhere.
This was hacked online.

Frequent Flyer Account HACKED

I want to know have any other members had their frequent flyer account hacked recently.
Mine has been deleted of points by unknowns using my points to book tickets.
I did not know this could happen to a FF account.

I never leave my boarding passes anywhere. I give no details out to anyone so how is this possible!!!!!!!
I do not use free wifi either.

I am waiting for the Airline to return my points to me.
I have only had a response their legal team is investigating.
Not happy as the points should be returned to me immediately !

Re: Frequent Flyer Account HACKED

This topic does pop up from time to time, but it does happen.

It may be frustrating that it takes time for the points to be returned, however the airline in question does have to exercise due diligence to ensure that the points are being returned correctly.

My taking on other cases is that you should file a police report as this is a case of theft. Make sure you provide any report numbers to the airline, as this provides a reference point as well.

It's not a pleasant thing to occur, but hopefully the points do get returned.

Re: Frequent Flyer Account HACKED

I have done a police report already and lodged it with the airline as soon as it happened to me.
My point is that even after investigating because it is fraud, how do I know they will return my points.
Just like hacking a bank account - no different is it!

On the flip side, the airline also has to be satisfied that a fraud has occurred before they re-instate the points.

You will generally find that most of the occasions on here have resulted in the return of points.

Re: Frequent Flyer Account HACKED

Sorry to hear that has happened. Hope you get your points back quickly.

izbork,

Your two threads have been merged and moved to a more appropriate area as they are essentially one the one topic.
