I was sent one of these SIMs, and just thought I'd share that it's working wonderfully (speeds are great and it worked on arrival at Heathrow) - it uses the O2 network!

I bought a data pack online (or whatever they're called) and activated the SIM before leaving Oz, so it was about $20AUD for 3GB of internet - not bad compared to the same thing on Vodafone Australia roaming, coming in at a whopping $61,440 (@$20AUD/MB)!! :D As a side note, I entered my hotel's address as the billing address, and all went through smoothly :)

Excellent glad it worked well for you!

Good luck with the move to LA.

I requested one of the sims in November - not sure if I am in the batch you have sent off today. Thanks if you have, if not I'd still be interested in one of your remaining 5. I PM'd address previously, but can resend it if needed.

I lent my brother this giff gaff card and he is having trouble getting his tesltra bigpond emails to go out.
The data is working as he can receive emails and search the web. Any ideas as to what he should change his outgoing mail settings to on his iphone whilst he is using giff gaff for data in uk??

We use giffgaff thanks to jdlover23 and it works really well on our English I phone. Mrscove is very impressed.

I had problems sending bigpond emails from my iPad and iPhone using a Telstra sim card on roaming or via wifi while overseas. No idea why and it's OK in Australia.

I had to establish a Yahoo address to get them out.

Thanks. If the link from giff gaff doesn't help him it may be easier to just use hotmail or yahoo. I'm sure he doesn't want to waste too much precious holiday time worrying about phone settings!

Looks like giff gaff may be starting to run out of numbers. It has been well over a year (rather than six months) since I last used my giff gaff SIM but I only received this e-mail a couple of days ago:

Hi SFSC,

Long time no see.
As it's been a while since you last used your giffgaff phone we thought we'd pop you one last email to check in and let you know that we'll shortly be disconnecting your phone number. However, if you have used your phone in the last few days, feel free to ignore this message.

If you have misplaced your SIM card, you can order a free replacement here.
As per our terms and conditions all you have to do is make a call, text or use mobile internet within a 6 month period and we'll keep your number connected along with any remaining balance.
If you do not make a call, text or use mobile internet before 12/05/2013 this number will be disconnected. This means any remaining balance you may have will expire, and you will no longer have access to this phone number. For more information about the process of closing your account please see here.
If you would like to join giffgaff in the future, you can log in to your My giffgaff account and activate a new SIM where you will be allocated a new phone number.
Thanks for being part of the giffgaff story,
The giffgaff team

Luckily, as it turns out, there will be usage again before 12/05/2013 but keeping it alive into 2014 might be difficult for me. Though I have probably done well to keep it this long.

Edited to add: I might find it worthwhile to send the occasional 30p roaming text.

If anyone still needs a giffgaff SIM, I recently noticed a link when browsing the giffgaff site: Get your FREE giffgaff SIM abroad! .

As with most of these sort of things you will have to make up your own mind if disclosing your information is worth it. (I would perhaps be inclined to not put any departure date.)

Giffgaff has worked really well for us in London and that was a really good thread started by jdlover23.
Jack Daniels I presume in this name!
