FREE Priority Club platinum status with its benefits

It's promos like this that make Priority Club the top rated hotel loyalty program. Essentially, you can buy status. But top tier really gives you nothing.

It's certainly not my favourite.

Have you actually sayed as a platinum member? It virtually always gives me an upgrade (only 40% strike rate on that with gold) and often gives me one of the best rooms in the house for a very cheap rate.

Unfortunately this promo values PC Plat at NIL:evil: and I'll take that into account in future. Just requalified plat - largely through preferencing six continents hotels - and doubtful I'd make the effort again. Why would I bother earning my status if others can get it for nothing but joining.

Cheers skip

I have stayed probably three times as a Platinum and have received no upgrade to speak of. This has included one stay at an IC; other at HIs.

As a Platinum I have actually had better upgrades through Crowne Plaza and IC than through Holiday Inns. What you get seems to vary a lot depending upon which hotel, how busy they are and a whole host of other non defined factors.

If IHG find you have two accounts they will lock both and remove the points, this promo was open to bona fide new members from nominated countries, although IHG are hornets greatest IT savvy users, I would not risk it.

This promo is similar to the recent Marriott, Hilton, AClub and Hyatt promos for instant status run in the last year.

As for not getting anything for Plat, hotels are inconsistent so check the priority club thread on what status has been recognized where, I often get the best room in the house in Darwin as well as a nice bottle of wine.

Basically, your ambassador (or royal ambassador) status counts at intercons (and does almost invariably do good things, particularly royal!), and the plat/gold at everything else (and is a bit more variable in what it gets you, in my experience).

Ambassador = Gold Status at non IC hotels, Royal Ambasador = Plat at non IC hotels, I have often got upgrades because of my RA status at non IC hotels so its like everything with ICH, inconsistent.

After many years of Royal Ambassador/Platinum and now for the past two years just Ambassador/Platinum, I've found for the most part that Ambassador is nearly as good as Royal Ambassador. The guaranteed upgrades at ICs are still good and the loss of the free mini-bar is fine by me. That benefit was either inconsequential (many ICs have a poor mini-bar), a blessing (temptation removed :)) or subject to some hotel 'interpretation' of what a mini-bar is...

To renew my Ambassador status a few weeks ago for another year cost just USD100 and you still get 5,000 PC points and the (now not as good, but still OK) weekend night BOGO at an IC. And I was made PC Platinum for the next year also. Those benefits and the Platinum earning bonuses (that apply to IC stays too) are easily worth USD100 imo.

I've found that Platinum has worked quite nicely at some HIs and CPs but I never have high expectations.

Whether it's free 'for new' members or not is pretty irrelevant as "Platinum" is ridiculously easy to attain.

Platinum will be my status in about 10 days after my 4th Stay at an IHG property under the PC number I enrolled with due to a thread on this forum with a bonus 500 points about 2 years ago.

My points earning break down so far this year:

Code:
21000 pts. THE BIGGEST LOSER (Instant "Gold")
12600 pts. MBRSP RWDS TRSFR-AUSTRALIA
10000 pts. CRACK THE CASE-OPT-IN BONUS
1000 pts. CRACK THE CASE-SURVEY BONUS
 2000 pts. THE ANYWHERE CHALLENGE
 1500 pts. THE ANYWHERE CHALLENGE
300 pts. GOOGLE TOOLBAR STAY BONUS
  250 pts. E-STATEMENT BONUS POINTS
[U]~1400 pts.[/U] 2 Awards Stays and 1 paid stay
50050 pts. TOTAL
My next Stay will be a 2nd Saturday night and 2nd Brand for Crack the Case which will earn 3300 and 4400 respectively. The stay itself should earn well over 3000 pts. Say PC Plat is mine!

The hardest part was the 21K Amex MR conversion (at 1000:600) on a top up for an award stay next year for Darwin.

Now sometime May next year I will have my 10th qualifying night with the CtC promo and I'll be given another 125,000 pts and "Instantly" re-qualify Platinum until after 2012.

Doesn't stop me aspiring to be a Royal Ambassador though :)

PC is good in that one can accumulate enough points for free nights readily. The benefits of status are nowhere near what other programs provide. Just need to decide which is important!

As easy as booking a reward night with points +$60 and cancelling

At least their is no shortage of reward rooms, even during special events like F1 GP (IC Melbourne 30,000 points/night...bargain.)

Does one need a referral for Ambassador status or is it simply USD100/year? Since I am going for Crack the Case promotion it may well be handy to have this status and the free night that goes with it.

Personally I prefer the points earning for more free nights. A bigger room is useless/wasted for my needs....

Ambassador RENEWAL is USD$100, its USD$200 to join and does not require a referral, only valid at ICs.

As for RAs and AMBs being equal more or less in benefits, RAs have guaranteed club access regardless of room booked and 8AM check in, two big differences for me.

The biggest benefit of PC program is the rooms available for redemption as well as PointBreaks. I am not so worried about the upgrades which is inconsistent anyway.

I cannot wait for the next PB ....

Early check-in (8:00 am) shall be available to all Royal Ambassadors. Upgrade to an executive room, Club InterContinental room or a suite for Royal Ambassadors at check-in.
Guaranteed club access was not given to me countless times when I has RA. But the upgrades were always done. Early check-in needed a bit of 'negotiation' at times but I agree it was useful.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Its only a new feature in the last year or so, and is consistently applied in APAC/OCEANIA by all accounts.
