The country's biggest hotel, the Four Points by Sheraton, Darling Harbour, is set to get even larger.
The state Planning Department has approved a $160 million redevelopment and upgrade of the Sussex Street hotel. A third tower will be built, comprising 230 rooms, new conference facilities and a 5000-square-metre, seven-storey office tower.
The upgrade will take the number of rooms at the hotel to more than 900. The retail area along Sussex Street will also undergo a revamp, with the search now on for restaurateurs and cafe operators.
Hotel owners M&L Hospitality, which is backed by Singapore's cough family, with Michael cough as chairman, plan to complete the project by 2016.
