Personally I like my iPhone but bit big to wear on wrist huh!

I agree with your sentiments.
I don't have many "Good" watches. ( lots of bits and pieces that aren't noteworthy) but what I do have will almost certainly go to my Grandson ( no son of my own).
For many a watch is just something to tell time.
For me it's an expression of something more, a statement about how you place yourself in the world, a connection with someone or something ( I have two of my grandfathers watches) that is / was important.
I don't see that connection with electronic goods, the distal era has IMHO missed something where sentimentality and emotion is concerned.

How dare you Cruiser, that's very offensive- where is the report button :cool: Wifey is 110% the sensible one when it comes to watches, if someone got jacked up over a comment like that, they should not use the internet-ever.
 
I currently have my eye on an Omega De Ville Trésor but not sure SWMBO would appreciate it. Personally a fine watch is but an emotional and potentially a financial investment. My grandfather gave an Omega to him when he got into uni, and my father bought me one when I completed my post graduate studies. Hopefully I'll get to opportunity to do the same in the future.

Having said that I do love tech as well and have been wearing my Apple Watch since launch and do love the quick glance updates but it holds nothing on a fine Swiss dress watch when one needs a more formal look
 
Jump in' Jehosaphat - 2 Gorillas - sheesh! I am so over watches - I have a box full I love - you can only wear one each day right? Just got a 'fitbit' - it has a watch in it - I can buy smart watch in China that does many things Apple Watch does for AD40 - did I mention I am so over watches?
 
I must admit that I'm a bit of a sucker for a classical mechanical watch. The wife bought me a Frederique Constant moonphase (Manufacture Slimline Moonphase | Frederique Constant) for me on our wedding day which I absolutely adore.

I must admit, I've been watching this thread for a little while and am a little surprised. Sure, it's a bit wanky....but on a forum full of people chasing status, I'm surprised there aren't more status watches...

I have a real soft spot for quality mechanical watches too. I own an Omega Planet Ocean - the last of the 2500 movements before the latest 8500 came out; got it for a ridiculously good price (relatively) at the time and I still love it. Aim to keep it for a long time to come. I would like to expand my collection in the future, but that will have to wait.

I also love performance cars; sometimes I wish I had less expensive hobbies!

At the risk of being branded as DYKWIA, I do have a few e.g. JLC, GP, Blancpain, Rolex etc but no Patek yet!

I can no longer be bothered with a watch that doesn't immediately set itself to the local timezone as soon as I turn off flight mode on my phone anywhere in the world - plus something that gives me notifications and can show a bunch of other useful things without dragging my phone out of my pocket.

Also, I must say I would constantly think of the huge proportion advertising makes up of the cost of DYKWIA watches.

Don't get me wrong, I do like a sharp-looking watch - but I now value functionality and not being the victim of rip-off more highly.

I always adjust my watch AND phone time zone to the destination manually when I board.
That way I always know how much flight time is remaining.
 
I will admit to the fact that the purchase of "DYKWIA" watches has much to do with the heart!

I just select the app on my watch that shows about 4 timezones of my choice. It does the rest - and with perfect accuracy. That way I can count up, down - and sideways ;):). And, not only that, the date is also always accurate, without all that twiddling around the dial ;):).

Once you have tired of your box full of watches, they have a home with me, where they will be loved and cared for ......,, we loves our precioussss we does. :-)

Rule number one. The need to adjust your watch manually shows you are actually capable of doing it (a bit like being able to tie shoe laces)
Rule number two . Never ! Pay full price for a timepiece.
Rule number three. Only buy what you can afford.


Ok I'm being silly.
The fact is a timepiece as opposed to "Just a watch" is a thing of beauty. But like most things in life , beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
For some it could be a loud , fast and dangerous machine , for others a sunset over ankor wat. Like the old 1970's song. It's different things to different people.
