I'm suffering from TR withdrawal so I thought I would do one on a weekend trip to Brisbane tomorrow (Easter Saturday).
I'm heading up from MEL on QF616 and back on QF615.
Managed to score 4C on both flights at T80.
I'm sitting on 585 SCs so the trip up will get me to 500 and requalify for Gold status.
Heading to the Richmond vs Brisbane game on Easter Sunday and planning on doing a pub/restaurant crawl on the Saturday so will report back.
This will be no Texas or Alaska TR and will be short, but what the hell. Any trip report is a good trip report, right?

Seems fair.
I've never spent more than a day in Brisbane in about half a dozen transits.
But it's a place I'd like to check out more thoroughly.

Richmond.... you're probably already booking your GF tickets.

I just put $100 on the Lions at $3.10 to soften the blow. It never works, yet I keep doing it. The lid is on.

Always watch Spurs vs Bournemouth tonight .... sure a pub is showing the game if not SBS is about 9pm

So it has begun. As there are four of us travelling, and I'm the only one with lounge access, we can't really go to he QP.
So PJ O'Briens it is. I can't believe I'm mixing it with plebs and spending $10.50 on a pint of Furphy.
Anyhow cheers. I will probably flake it by 4pm.

Eagle St pier has some good beer and dinner options

Flight was ok. Got stuck next to a big guy who jogged the armrest. Lunch was a choice of a pie or a wrap.

I chose the wrap.
FA was awesome. Saw my Richmond cap and gave me free beer the whole flight.

Can't complain about free beer

Sorry Justin but this time I am not on your side.Had a chance meeting with a young fellow just starting out on his AFL career many years ago.He impressed me so although not an AFL fan I followed his team.Hawthorn and the lad was Leigh Matthews. After I moved to QLD he followed me so my second team is the Lions. They are now playing like my usual picks in footy teams.
So sorry Lions over the Tigers today.

The FA was great. Managed to down three beers (all free of charge) and listen to some music on my Bose QC35s. Flight time from wheels up to wheels down was 1 hour 36 minutes.
Only travelled with hand luggage, so straight off the plane and onto the the Skytrain into the CBD. There was an absolute weirdo on the train who was sexually harrassing a young woman. I reckon she would be have no more than 20. Eventually I'd had enough and told him that if he didn't stop and get off at the next stop, I'd personally drag him off the train and beat the living daylights out of him. I'm not a violent person. In fact I have never been in a fight in my life. But somebody had to do something.
Anyway he called my bluff and I stood up and he backed down. He got off at the next stop and abused me the whole way.
At least the young woman was appreciative.
I'm not glorifying my actions by any means. But violence against women needs to be stopped by us men who actually respect women in the first place.
Anyway, a short trip into town and then a 10-minute walk to the Mantra Midtown. Check in was easy.
It's not an atmospheric place by any means. The lobby is small and uninviting but the rooms are OK and the location was great. I had a studio apartment.
Legroom in seat 4C was pretty decent, but nowhere to store hand luggage unless you want to ask the person next to you to use their floor space.

Well done. Bullies are usually cowards when their bluff is called

One thing I noticed sitting in 4C was that the front toilet was open slather. Hell, even I used it after a few beers.
And yes Jim Walsh, xx_X Gold is pretty ordinary stuff, but 3.5% alcohol content means an old fart like me can have a decent sesh and still wake up fine the next morning. Something that would stand me in good stead that afternoon actually.
The weather in Brisbane was lovely. About 26 degrees and sunny so we checked in and strode to the Victory Hotel literally 150 metres from where we staying.
We made it just in time for kick off for the Melbourne Storm vs Manly game. Now this is where the mid strength beer came in handy. The others were all drinking heavy beer. But I stuck to the Carlton Mids at $5 a pint. A decision that would prove crucial the next day.

As the afternoon turned into evening, things started to roll along nicely. The guys were well lubed, but I was travelling nicely. I met Brian the Meerkat and had a drink with him.

BY about 10pm the pretty young things started to arrive and young lads, and pretty soon the place turned into a blue light disco on steroi_s. It got packed and rowdy and I was spent anyway.
It had been a long day so I visited a kebab shop and called it quits, ready for a big day tomorrow.

I had a restless night's sleep. Couldn't get the room temp right. Air-con on and it was too cold. Off and it was too hot. Fiddled with the controls and to no avail.
Woke at 7am and realised I'd had a half-eaten kebab in the fridge. Gold mine! A quick nuke in the microwave and that was breakfast sorted. Made a cuppa and sat out on the balcony with temperature outside already above 20 degrees with glorious sunshine.

You missed a good opportunity to watch the Spurs game at the Pig & Whistle with the Brissy Ozspurs legends mate.

Bummer. I watched it on my phone, but that would have been awesome. Spewing.
