I think this is the correct place to ask these questions, although this part of the forum doesn’t seem as busy as others so maybe I should also ask elsewhere … ?

But with lots of finger-crossing & if there’s enough duck-alignment, I’m hoping to spend a few nights in Lyon at the end of June.

Given it’s considered very Up There in terms of food, I imagine there’re a lot of traps for new players to fall into. Tourists traps, if you will. Like going to Italy for a pizza, without being careful enough.

So does anyone have any food and drink related suggestions or recommendations? I’m open to a wide range of food stuff, from “this patisserie at this market is awesome-sauce to get yourself some DIY brekkie” to “that restaurant will cost you over a grand but WOW it’s worth it”..

This restaurant is definitely recommended
Atmosphere, menu - Japanese French fusion with Japanese precision of execution and price. If you can, go for the lunch. Even cheaper because of taxes.

We enjoyed Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse - Site officiel for both the local market experience as well as various eat in options.
One of the cheese makers had spent time in Australia and we enjoyed a good chat with him and benefitted greatly from his marvellous cheese recommendations for our bread and cheese dinner picnic. There are also some wonderful eat in options. Well worth a visit - just be sure to check the opening times.

We were there in May last year for a couple of days so I will offer a couple of general suggestions.

Firstly if you watch any 'foodie' YouTube videos about Lyon they always recommend that you eat at a Bouchon. We did and the food was excellent including a couple of local specialities in Salad Lyonnaise and Fish Quenelle Lyonnaise ( shown below). The place we chose at random was La Meuniere Bouchon Lyonnais in a little back street named Reu Neuve in the centre of the city but there are Bouchon everywhere. There were probably half a dozen more to choose from in that back street alone.

If you want to try something different and a bit buzzy go to La Commune : Food Court & plateforme événementielle à Lyon - LA COMMUNE. It claims "Eating, drinking or dancing: there's something for everyone!

La Commune is also a culinary incubator, a talent incubator dedicated to the development of up-and-coming culinary project leaders.

At the heart of our establishment, eight chefs invite you to share their passion through their innovative and flavorful cuisine. La Commune offers a diverse and inclusive gastronomic experience, where everyone can find something to enjoy. Come join us and embark on an unforgettable culinary adventure!"

We went there twice and it is a fun place with interesting food and and plenty of drinks available plus live music at times.
