OK all you Foodies out there. What is the choice like at the Noodle Bars. Do they have just Noodles? Departing on a midnight flight to CDG.:?:

IIRC, Some sandwiches, biscuits and minor snack items.

It was 2005 when I was last there and the F lounges are much better (if you want noodles in the F/L, just ask and they'll bring them to you).

This may sound harsh to some but IMHO - cough.

After visiting these HKG lounges (and other Asian CX lounges) more than ten times in a two week period the novelty of a chef cooking fresh noodles was well and truly worn out. Particularly as the offerings were almost always the same choice.
I would hope that the offerings in the F lounge are better.

The snack offerings were very basic, especially in the morning.

Enjoy
;)

The noodles in soup start cooking at 10:30am - until then there is a breakfast noodle dish (fried noodles and veges).

Apart from that, the brekkie spread is pretty poor IMHO. Dim Sum, fruit salad, pastries, some cake slices, congee is what I saw a few mins ago when I went for a wander through the J (Wing) lounge. I suspect Cathay have cut catering costs (and I even felt it in the F lounge).

Late arvo, I'll take another wander through and see what the noodle selections and other food are.

Isn't there noodle soup available in the business class lounges? The long bar? I remember sitting there with dad and having some noodle soup and self serve beer. Dad managed to find enough to eat for breakfast but that was 4 months ago so things may have changed.

Unless using the restaurant or the showers in the First Class section I prefer to sit in the business class side and get my own drink rather than being waited on....

The food in The Haven (at The Wing and The Pier F Lounges) is generally very good. I love the dim sum and pork buns for breakfast. The dinner choices on the buffet are generally very good also.

As I posted earlier, noodle soup isn't available until 10:30am. Not sure if this is a recent change, as the last few times I've been through HKG it's been for horrible early flights and the "noodle booth" wasn't even open. They do have fried noodles w/veges available for breakfast, which are cooked/served at the same booth by a chef. (Not sure what time they start serving).

The breakfast buffet food offerings in the Haven are still good, but to me it feels like the variety has been reduced.

Why is everyone talking about breakfast and lunch when the OP is on a midnight flight and asking what is available, does breakfast start late evening .

Well, he might want to do what I did, and stay in HKG the whole day. :D

OK maybe not....

But seriously, spread is pretty good in F Wing/Pier for the all-day menu. Noodle soups are a nice diversion and refreshing.

J Wing/Pier is mainly self-serve snacks and pre-packed sandwiches - some dim sim amongst it all. Not entirely inspiring.

I could of stayed all day in the whiskeys of the world bar at the end on the bottom level, it morphed into a smoking bar and is obviously something else now! I wonder if the facilities change late evening, I doubt it but its a valid question.

Seeing I'm currently ~10 metres from the noodle bar, I could take a wander down and ask what is served at midnight - I certainly won't be around here at that time...

Or I could just post which noodles are currently available and what else is on the serving racks - but that would be a description of ~5:30pm food, not midnight.

Or I might just wander off to the Qantas lounge instead. If anyone is interested in what food is around at this time of day, I'm more than happy to post... assuming that information is wanted.

Mal,

You could do ALL of the above :!: :D

Well the sandwiches are:
- Grilled bell pepper / basil pesto.
- Tuna / Corn salad
- Lyoner sausage.
Additional dishes:
- Onion Rings
- Minestrone soup
- pork buns
- fruit salad / fruit etc.

The noodles are on a rotating menu. Friday's is up - seeing is a Friday. I've already tried copying down the names a couple of times (and ordered one dish), but I keep getting weird looks so won't go back again...

There are 2 "fixed" noodle dishes, and 3 or so that seem to rotate.

Pan Dan Mein is one of the noodle dishes.

Will come back on Sunday and write down the rest...

Wot, your in IT and you are writing things down

I've wondered through the J lounge out of boredom before. I can't attest to their quality, though you could try the kebabs on the far left of the long bar; they seem to be popular, judging from how people tend to hang around there to score the fresh ones. FYI I walked through about 11pm.

Yeah I know - it's a shock. Unfortunately my brain is becoming more and more like the RAM in a computer that is reset often, so writing things down does help with remembering such things. My phone camera makes a horrible "snap" type sound (although I really should mod it and get it removed), so taking discreet pictures can be dificult.

They had the kebabs in the F buffet. They were quite nice, I agree.

I'm now finishing up here in the Cathay lounge and heading to Qantas, and will make one more pass through to grab a bottle of water and see if I can gleam more information.

Ok here's the complete Noodle menu for today:

Main Menu:
Dan Dan Mien
Won Ton with Noodles in soup

Friday specials:
Japanese Ramen in Soup (with Miso or Soya Broth)
Oriental Rice Noodles in soup

Also, I missed BBQ pork neck sandwiches, a fried noodle dish, various pastries from my original scan of the food items out.

Hi Mal,
I know they have kebabs amongst other things in the F lounge. However the OP was speaking about HKG J; thus I was bringing to their attention that said kebabs are available on the far left side of the long bar, under a bain marie or whatever you call it. Cheers.

Can't you just ask for beef noodles? Works for me.

Wish they would fix the "snap" type noise in the phone camera. Sometimes one needs to take discreet photos. ;)
