Fog!

Maybe I should have said departing aircraft have a lot easier task locating the runway since they should be on it, there has been the odd mis-identification of runways when confused with taxiways in the past, despite the best efforts of navigational aids and lighting!
Also note that the time of attempting to locate the runway, a departing aircraft is travelling somewhat slower than an arriving aircraft (in theory at least).

Unless it has rotor blades ;)

Fog hasn't lifted all day here in WGA. Was thinnest around 2pm, but was still very thick.

Glad I wasn't on my way home today ....

... and given the fog outside at the moment, I don't like the chances of that lone delayed flight landing here tonight (hence there will be no aircraft for the 06:30 WGA-SYD tomorrow).

Did the 630 get out this morning - there may still be an a/c on the ground for tomorrows 630......

Currently in LosAngeles they seem to call it "the marine layer"which I am sure we used to call smog 25 years ago.
We have had a heavy layer here for about two weeks but fortunately it is more of cloud than cough.

... and there we have it. A whitewash (literally!)
Really, really glad I wasn't caught up in that today.

QF2220 WGA-SYD @ 06:30 tomorrow cancelled again ... last flight tonight couldn't land again for fog.

At least I get to sleep in tomorrow morning - I've been moved to the 10:00 flight :)

We might get a cat IIIc one day - you wont see Sydney ever change from Cat 1 though.
Probably not...it will jump straight to GLS. There's currently GLS approaches for 16 and 34. Only on a trial basis at the moment. A380 can use them, but I don't know what else. Autoland is only available on empty ferry flights, but obviously at some point in the future it will become useful.
