I recently found myself in Japan and a need to fly to Rome and discovered the Korean low cost carrier T'way. For those who don't know they fly ex-CX 777-300ERs with the Business class seats from CX in the reverse herringbone pattern. I think they used to have CX F product in some planes. In the plane I flew it was all J seats in the front of the cabin and no F seats. There were also some premium Y seats, though I didn't really investigate.
The flight is about 13:30hrs and departs mid morning, arriving into Rome at about 19:00 when there isn't such a crush of trans continental flights as there are in the morning. Which is a great advantage for traversing the sometimes overcrowded FCO. It also you arrive at your accommodation at night ready to conquer the jetlag.
There were amenity kits on the seats when we arrived.
Be warned, however. There is no IFE, despite the screens and controllers still being there. The food is just like an economy class meal and there are limited drinks which you can buy.
So if your after pure hard product and don't mind a sacrifice it is a poor man's J experience for about KRW500,000 to upgrade a cheap economy ticket at the check in desk, if available.
