Hi all, I am planning an overseas trip next year from Melbourne, visiting London, New York city, then back to Melbourne. I don't really mind which city I visit first so was wondering; is there a particular order which is better in terms of flying time, flight availability and most importantly, price?
Thanks in advance.

I always leave the USA last. If you're into shopping… you'll quickly fill your bags and it's nice to be able to check them and come home rather than drag them to another destination.

I've literally filled 3 suitcases at Century 21 in NY alone.

And don't forget Woodbury Common Outlet in NY (especially if you like designer labels) Agree that you go to NY last. Also, for cosmetics, America is cheaper than UK and Europe

Many prefer travelling in westbound direction as it can to diminish effects of jet lag. Nights and days last longer, travelling west. When travelling eastwards nights and days are compressed :p Of course this can all be debated, as the flipside is easterly travel is generally faster over the same distance.

Do you have an airline or alliance of choice?

What time of year are you going?

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far.

erkpod, I intend to travel across in August and return early September. I have no alliance to a particular airline.
Thanks again.

So decided to fly from Melbourne - Dubai (for a couple of nights) - London (for 3 weeks) - New York (for a week) - Melbourne. Leaving August 1 for the whole month.

Have left booking quite late and it seems the price for two for the above is around $3500 each. If anyone knows a cheap option I'd be happy to hear about it!
