Last five years (2012-2016) = 129 flights to, from and within LTBMGA.
Planned flights to, from and within during next four years = 0.

An interesting coincidence. A changing work role is the main reason, but I don't find myself greatly upset...

Well, its no coincidence that I won't be going to "LORAF" (Land of Rednecks and Fools) anytime in the next few years.

My small protest. Rather spend my well earned in other places.

On the other hand, +1 and I are going late this year.

Looking forward to our first Suites flight and there are many places I want to visit.

If I thought about the politics of places I probably ditch the passport and wouldn't go anywhere.

Ditto; just booking a number of USA flights for May right now.

Indeed - I have travelled to many countries who do not enjoy democratic elections and whose 'leader' I wouldn't vote for if I could. Travel boycotts for political reasons, as a rule, only hurt the usually low paid workers who service travellers; the leaders don't lose any sleep over it.

(And I don't know if I would necessarily call Hilary Clinton a redneck and a fool, but I'm open to argument... ;) )

We will be spending 2 weeks in the South in March. I booked the flights back when people were egging Trump to run, for the joke factor.

One of my friends is a hard core Hillary hater. I tell myself shes allowed to have her own political views but meeting up with her is going to be awkward if she starts sprouting any Trump speak.

We're going a couple of times this year. But it certainly puts a stop to the idea of potentially moving there...

5 weeks this year ... although at least 3 of those will be in Mexico.

I'm more scared of Mike Pence than I am of Donald

Last year Australian industry superfunds invested in a toll road in Indiana - signed off by Mike Pence as he was governor of that state then. Those who talk of boycotting the country should logically also boycott superfunds which invest in that country.

If I wanted to live there I would go and do it. Presidents come and go.

The way I look at it is, if I moved to a country and there was a change in the leadership to one I did not like, would I leave and perhaps return when the leadership changes or would I stay and suck it up for a few years?
Obviously I'm not talking about some sort of IS invasion here.

Why would I was boycott the country? Personally I'm going three times this year. But Mike Pence is a scary dude who would be way worse than Trump would ever be.

Visiting the states that coincide with your own political views, you'd hardly notice any difference I'd suggest.

Not saying you should - my comment was more generally directed. Many dont realise that the tentacles of a international relationship extend to much more than just travel.

Yeah, watching the markets with interest and wondering which way to 'gamble'.

Playing the markets coloured by any political view will generally lead to this:

But yes the markets are going to react in some way. In fact they have already reacted with the USD/AUD pair falling - a bit. What the AUS Reserve Bank is going to do will be very interesting. To prevent a rise in the AUD it may have to lower official interest rates which are at an all time low.

So on one superficial level - Great for those travelling to the LTBMGA and maybe down the road beneficial to homeowners

Actually LTBMGA should be LTMBMGA

It wasnt going to happen in the short term anyway.

Then I assume you also boycott all of the Middle Eastern airlines? Because the actual human rights abuses in those countries are an order of magnitude worse than anything Trump is accused of. Or is that "different"?

No, its not different. I ask you, do you boycott middle eastern airlines because of your view? Probably not. I hae used middle eastern airlines, but I will not visit them, get it :) That's how my small protests work.

I think some people have slightly misinterpreted what I said.

To be clear, I'm smart enough to know a total boycott of all things american, is almost impossible and ridiculous. To me, its a perfectly sensible, albeit miniscule, reason not to go there. I'm not the biggest fan of the USA anyway, despite 9 or 10 visits over the years. I really don't see the issue tbh. And I do examine my investments carefully and ethically as others noted. I have a SMSF.

I also have other countries I won't visit for various reasons, (dictators, repressive regimes, genocide....)

Its my choice, I won't suffer for it. I'm sure they won't either. except if you abide by the theory, that I'm not the only one ;)
