Flying SQ and getting AN points

Further to my last (I had to go to lunch) Air NZ is a leaner airline than QF. If QF had tried the same sort of AN buyup and failed in a similar manner I wonder if they could have survived like Air NZ have to-date.

Qantas would not have tried to enter into a deal where their aquity/debt ratio was so astronomically low :!:

I truely believe that now the ACCC has canned the joint Air NZ/Qantas arrangement it is only a matter of time.

I TRUELY HOPE I AM WRONG :!:

An ageing fleet and a shortage of markets does not go well for them. They require a lot more help than alliances and code share deals. They need joint business plans and their best option for one has just been trashed :!:

The ageing fleet is about to be updated with A320's (15+5). There's always been a concentration on shorthaul with this airline and alliances for the longhaul.
I hope this may be a revival of sorts.
Who knows :?: What if they allied with VB so they could put more resources toward longhaul.
Anything's possible :?

I'll put my neck on the line here. If the QF/NZ deal is indeed dead then I'll give NZ no more than 24 months. i.e. end of Sept 2005 (unless the NZ Gov't injects funds again)

As I said before, I hope I'm wrong however the writing is on the wall just waiting for someone to read it :!:
