For most of my life, I have had my birthday at home. In 2011, I was in London & this year, I've decided to take a short break for a week in Melbourne. So I thought I'd spend my birthday in Melbourne. But no, I decided to go on a status run to Darwin on the day of my birthday instead. I was originally thinking of Perth but Darwin worked out better. I've never been to Darwin.

Has anyone flown on their birthday before & received any recognition or an upgrade? I'll be quite happy to tell my friends I'm spending the day with some hot FA & having a Darwin stubby.

Sounds like a great way to spend a birthday to me. I have flown on my birthday, but it was a really early flight there and back. No upgrades, cake or mid-flight champers. But you could be the one. Good luck and happy birthday.

I do seem to recall a member getting "Happy Birthday" printed on their BP in the past.

I don't think I've ever actually flown on my birthday. I have on the day before and the day after though.

No upgrades possible on my next birthday

I flew on my Birthday this year and went to the desk in the QP to ask for an upgrade. The wonderful CSM not only upgraded me but waived the points !

Flown many times on my birthday as WP and SG and *never* had any special treatment from QF. Had better luck with the hotels I was shooting for at the time - cake, a nice box of chocolates or a beer waiting for me.

Sit back and enjoy the flight - Happy Birthday!

Like Archphoto I have flown several times on my birthday. Nothing special at all, and one was an international flight where they had to look at my passport.

I know people who have had, unprompted, a nice little desert presented to them in the MEL F lounge (a little fruit platter with a chocolate plaque that said 'Happy Birthday') but nothing else.

Perhaps I should try the upgrade in the QP next time I'm flying on my birthday ;)

Wow!, Ashley - thats an excellent pressie from the airline. How many points did they waive?

I was on a birthday flight, flying First class on Asiana Airlines from LAX to Seoul last year - and the FA said Happy Birthday and gave me an extra gift. (as they usually give you a choice of gifts at the end of the flight). It was a CD from some top Korean classical band, but I didn't know who they were, and I don't understand Korean - it was nice touch though.

Great when they do something special, but then again you don't really want the extra attention.

I'm flying transcon with QF on my birthday this month.
Never flown on my birthday before and no expectation of anything different lest I should be disappointed :)

i travel on many forms of public transport (frequently)... (cabs/buses/trains/planes) on my birthday over MANY years...if i mention this to the cab company driver/crew...the bus company driver/crew...the rail company driver/crew...the airline/crew....i get no cake no champers no upgrades no special treatment!!... booohooo ... lol.. some on here seem to get 'upset' / 'feel left out' ..when their egos arent 'stroked' ....blah blah booohoooo lol ..... i fully expect to be chastised by many on here...including being 'punished' by the moderators ..

I think I'd be happy with that seat for my birthday (or any other day, really!)

SCORE! That's too cool! I didn't know that was possible.

I'm not counting on it but that sounded great & a unique reminder of the trip!

I'm going to to have to go to the lounge first. Because of the time of the flight, it actually won't be my birthday when I check in, especially if I get there early for maximum lounging.

Flying VA soon on my birthday - will see what happens :)

Are you flying MEL - DRW & back? LOL. Wouldn't it be funny if we were on the same flights on the same day & we didn't know it!

I'll wave at your plane as we cross at 30000 ft (or so!) - let me know if you get anything! ;)

Fingers crossed! My first flight's an early one but I should be able to get some sleep on the plane on the way up if I don't have too many hot dogs in the lounge.

I very much doubt that anyone would come up to me on their birthday while I'm driving them on their train & go "Hey, it's my birthday!"

Catching a suburban train/bus/taxi is a little different to being on a plane, especially when you're on an aviation forum (a frequent flyer forum no less).

I remember recently that I was at the Hard Rock Cafe at Surfers Paradise recently & the people working there went over to a person's table & sung happy birthday to them. Over the next 45 minutes or so, they did the same to another 5 tables. It was very hard to have a conversation with the person I was dining with because of the almost constant birthday singing.

In the end, I asked one of the servers if you needed proof to have someone sing to you for your birthday because it was happening almost constantly. They told me that they don't insist on ID but rely on the person's honesty. They were almost going to sing happy birthday to me but told them not to worry about it.

flew MH last year to Vietnam and back, flying back was on my birthday so I thought I might ask for an upgrade from Y to J just to try my luck. The girl at the check-in desk in Saigon all but laughed in my face (I did not have any status with MH)...

Never experienced birthday flying myself - but about 12 years or so back when I was regularly securely ensconced in cattle class cabins I was flying UA LAX to MEL - coupla gorgeous young NA fillies seated close by whom I overheard talking about a birthday next day.

Started chatting to them and it turns out we dep LAX on Sept 24 I think it was - landed in MEL Sept 26 - you guessed it - the little darling's bday was Sept 25 - she totally missed out that year.

Advised UA FAs of situation and they were fabulous with offering open slather to drinks in galley for the impromptu party we organised post midnight - only proviso was it was self service - they were not getting off their duffs to bring a continual supply of alcohol - no biggie - the party went on for hours - think it was best Y flt I have ever had - and on UA to boot.

Well, I won't be flying on my birthday this Friday :(
But I will be skiing :D

Never flown on my birthday but was at a Sheraton for one a few years back, came back to my room and had a massive mud cake with birthday candles on it waiting for me with a card.
Very sweet!

A few years ago we were scheduled to fly Luang Prabang - Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh on my birthday. I just slotted the day as a "travel day" and made no particular plans and had no expectations.

Just as well .. Lao Air first leg was a complete shemozzle with us taken off our flight, re-instated, taken off, flight late etc etc. Resulting in missed Vietnam Air flight, but got a later one. Eventually got to HCM very late that night.

My travelling fiends were distraught and panicking, as they had planned (but not booked ;) ) an extravagant night out for the birthday.

A travel day is a travel day; birthday or not, don't expect any particular result, so I was annoyed, but relaxed at the delays.

The birthday dinner the next night was pretty extravagant, however!

It was Brissy to Perth so not insignificant and ended up in 1B.

Sweet as Ewing.

I flew with my mother on her 70th Birthday FRA-xSIN-MEL, no recognition at all from QF. I thought about telling the ground staff or the FA's on-board to at least give her a greeting over the PA, considering it was a major birthday and the previous year for her birthday she was in hospital recovering from surgery to remove cancer from her bowel. I should have asked but I hate imposing on the ground staff or cabin crew but I made it up to her by paying for her duty free booze in SIN and a kiss on the cheek when the clock ticked over to midnight.
