Hi,
I'm looking at flying to Tokyo from the gold coast / Brisbane area, and I have a couple of options looking at flying in Y.

My Girlfriend and I will be heading on the 9th or 11th of April with her returning on the 18th and myself on the 26th.

Option 1. Korea Air from BNE to ICN - NRT then NRT - ICN - BNE 13hr total flight time

Option 2. JQ from OOL to NRT 9hrs

I was told both are 787 but that Korean Air is much more comfortable. But its five more hours flight time

Has anyone made either trip with any recommendations?

I am also Qantas Club, not that it matters for this flight

both flights are less than $800 return

I would personally go with Korean Air - especially if the price is comparable. I dislike Jetstar (have had some very uncomfortable long-haul flights with them), and Korean will offer a much better in-flight experience and be more reliable. The only reason to choose Jetstar is the convenience of the direct flight (assuming they don't cancel it).

If you have a Qantas Club membership, I think you can use the lounge in OOL before your Jetstar flight.
Is the Jetstar pricing including luggage, meals, entertainment? So you compare like with like?

If so, the other difference is the points you get with Korean Air (assuming your Jetstar pricing is not pointsmax). They can be given to a number of FF programs including these ones that have more relevance locally: Alaska, Delta, Etihad.

If you don’t care about the points at all, and the pricing is the same for the same inclusions, and start point is equally convenient, I’d rate the direct flight higher. No need to change, and shorter flyer time are both good pros outweighing the tight Jetstar seats. Especially now with the virus issues in Asia, it removes the risk of there being an issue in Korea when Japan is fine (not that I see Korea as more risky).

Is the QF BNE-NRT flight not an option?
There are also connection options from BNE to either TYO airport via SIN, HKG, MNL, KUL and TPE, or Scoot via SIN from OOL.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I've done both Jetstar OOL-NRT and Korean BNE-ICN (then onwards to else where in Asia). Both are fine but I'd probably take the Jetstar one if you're on the Gold Coast and the Korean one if you're in Brisbane.

That being said the Jetstar price you're seeing (which is similar to Korean) doesn't include meals, drinks, entertainment, baggage so as others have mentioned if that's important then forget Jetstar. The only benefit your Qantas club membership gets is access to the lounge on the Gold Coast (there isn't one in Narita before Jetstar flights).

Is the QF BNE-NRT flight not an option?

Qantas is wanting around $400-500 more per person compared to Jetstar or Korean for those dates.

Thanks for the information. I like the idea of the larger seat as im a pretty big lad. but betting off earlier also sounds good. I have read some decent things about Korean Air.
