Flying BA in the Bubble - Question

A recent trip on BA to Singapore allowed me to try the Business Class seating (have flown many others), I found to be comfortable but with the seat in the reverse position I must say it was a bit off putting. My question is does anybody know what the rules are in reference to children upstairs in BUS. There was a child who screamed for at least 4 of the 7 hours, no chance of sleeping, watching a movie etc... I used the plugs, BA noise cancelling headphone and even my own BOSE set !

Children can sit in any seat ( other than exits ). If they want to sit upstairs they can

Noise-cancelling headphones can actually make the problem worse. They take away some of the ambient noise, thus making the other noises more noticeable. Sometimes it's worth thinking of the engines as a type of white noise generator, masking at least part of the disturbing cabin noises.

Children can even sit in First Class if they have a valid boarding pass. Upper Deck and Lower Deck are treated exactly the same by airlines when it comes to business class seating - no preference for adults or children, snorers, recliners, those suffering flatulence, body odour or halitosis, garlic or onion lovers, sneezers, poor dress taste or any other type of condition that may make a journey less than pleasant for fellow passengers.

I used to regularly travel in business class on Qantas metal and have always tried to take my family with me at least twice a year. Both my children started flying by 6 months of age with regular flights every half year. My kids (now 6 and 2) know how to behave on an aircraft and we always have the other passengers in mind when travelling with our kids.

The biggest problem with children flying are the parents. Most parents who do not have experience travelling with children have no idea what to do in order to make the flight more comfortable for the children.

Having a young one of my own I find I can zone out the child noise....but the flatulent neighbour can be quite a different matter - particularly upstairs on BA where there are no directional air nozzles to be able to get fresh air. I had the pleasure of LHR-LAX with the sort of neighbour that can make 12hrs of breathng through your mouth seem very very long.

I do feel sorry for you but unfortunately nothing you can do.

I spent about 20 minutes seated next to 2 parents with a 3-4 year old girl in cattle class. She was so spoilt. Did not want to sit on either of the parents lap for takeoff. Did not want to have a seat belt on while in her own seat. Constant screaming and tantrums. I started to have a headache. I went off walking through the cabin looking for empty seats. Lucky I found a row a few rows back that had 3 empty seats and after asking if it was OK to sit I parked there for the whole flight.

I can understand that people need to travel with children but surely they can have some consideration for other passengers and keep their children under control.

You just got very unlucky. I lived in the BA bubble between NY and LON for the last few years and one of my fellow co-workers and I are convinced that on that route at least (as its BA's bread winner) that there is an unwritten rule that they keep kiddies out of the dome. I didnt see one up there in 40 odd flights flights. Bliss
