I'm off to visit family in the UK and as they live in The North I will need to fly out of Manchester, which means I am looking at Emirates.

To kick off with a break (and to prepare for my family) we're having a week in Bergamo. EK fly into Bergamo with their FlyDubai subsidiary, or I can fly into Milan and get the train up (a couple of hours).

Has anyone any experience with FD? The plane would be a 737Max I believe, whereas Milan is an A380; the flight is about 7 hours so I don't want a horrific experience and I'm trying to do the tradeoff of extra time vs LCC.

Depending on whether it is Y or J. Regardless I would prefer to fly to MXP on EK. If J or above, definitely EK.

Bergamo is not that far from MXP. It is about 2-3 hour train from MXP. Or if timed correctly, 1.5 hour of Flixbus away.

Go EK (possibly on a QF codeshare). First, you'll have your status recognised on EK (but not Flydubai). Second, according to my dad (who flew into Catania with them), the flights on Flydubai can get rowdy with Italians treating it as one big party (as the IFE is paid). Third, Bergamo is easy to get to from central Milan with a new train serving BGY, and I think there are MXP to BGY transfer buses making it easy to transfer there. (And if you're in MEL or SYD, you can take it all as a day flight.)

Anyway, enjoy Bergamo - it's a delightful place, particularly up the top in the old town.
