FlyDubai charter with US military forced to land in Iran

Direct route from Bagram to Dubai goes over Iran. News is reporting that Iranian ATC ordered the UAE registered charter to land at Bandar Abbas due to administrative errors in the filed flight plan. A couple of Iranian F16s convinced the pilots to comply.

When did Iran get F16s? I know they were ordered under the Shah but were never delivered to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

If the situation was reversed I wonder if the plane and pax would've been released as quickly?
