Hey Everyone,

I received a pretty nice deal this week from Coles:

However, I just picked up groceries the day before, and am wondering if it would be possible on such offers to order booze with my (light) grocery shop to climb over that $120 hurdle? Looking at the T&Cs I don't specifically see an exclusion for booze but thought I'd check before I submit my order tomorrow.

No Coles in my area sell alcohol but you can buy via Coles online. Can't imagine there is an exclusion (as there is with tobacco) as many bottle shops participate

Yes you can with Coles Online. I do it all the time. But a bit of a caution: You can't substitute alcohol. I find it's a bit hit-and-miss if you will get your ordered alcohol products at all. For me it's about 80% hit but a fair bit (20%) of miss. So to be sure of exceeding the target spend, you might need to over spend a bit, and vary the alcohol products a bit, to ensure you'll do it. Because some of them might not be available on the delivery day.

Yes, I've done it several times too, and it works well.

I guess it can be a little hit and miss at times, and recently I received 4 bottles of quite expensive pinot noir that I didn't order (I had ordered something else of lesser value).

However, I've found that even if something is out of stock, Coles will use the original order value to determine whether you get the points or not.

I did not know that! I don't think I wanted to risk it! :)

I once received an extra bottle of the wine I had ordered. I contacted Coles and said I was happy if they charged me for the extra bottle. They said keep it - no extra charge.

Yes, that's my general experience too. If there has been a misdelivery in the customer's favour they seem to let it go as a goodwill gesture.

When I book at my local BWS online, the amount of stock in that shop appears each time for the particular item you want to buy.

And when you place an order with Coles Online, they won't sell items that are not currently in stock.

The issue comes when the order is eventally fulfilled, ready to be delivered. Which is typically at least the next day. And can be several days away.

In which case that's not my problem as I would've ordered over $120 in items online and qualified for the bonus points offer. After all, it's not my fault if Coles doesn't have the plonk in stock!
Coles Online for grog usually comes at a premium price.
Cheap is my middle name! Usually for $50 or so I can nab 4 or 5 bottles of wine from a Coles online special. This is simply red table wine for enjoying with a pizza, I'm not looking for Dom Perignon, which I hear Amazon has the best price on these days.

Well hopefully.

I've tried not to chance it. Is it actually stated in the T&Cs like that? I can't find it.

There's quite many reports that state bonus points were not awarded when unavailable items reduced the spend to below the qualifying limit. Coles customer service stated it was according to the "final spend".

But they argued with Coles and usually got the points.

So it might need some "negotiation". :)

Haha - mine too (middle name). My intent was the price at Coles Online was at a higher price than other major outlets like Dan's, FCL and to a lesser extent LL and BWS.
