Apparently you can fly between Melbourne or Sydney and the U.S. for only 45,000 United Airlines miles. Must be ticketed by 28 February 2006 and travel must be completed by 15 May 2006. Great time for some Spring skiing over here. Details.

There have been some problems with this offer. Read all of this discussion on FlyerTalk before trying to get it.

UA must be finding it hard to fill their planes across the Pacific at the moment. This seems to be borne out by their excellent offer to fly MEL/SYD to the US East Coast (and back) for only $1199 + "taxes" (Zuji price).

Personally, I have no intention of flying across the Pacific in economy at any price. My back and my mind couldn't stand it (and there's no upgrades in T class).

The mileage deal shows the vast difference in worth of a UA mile vs a QF mile.

45000 QF miles is only enough for trans-tasman.
