I have been following QF29/QF30 which has dropped F class and it now shows PE as rows 23;24;25;26 with the former PE rows as blocked out Economy.

I have flight in late July and have been allocated 23B already.

I am presuming PE service with J seats. A lot cheaper than $11000 for return J.

Only available on these two flights so Sydney people would need to come via Melbourne.

Same happened for me traveling up early August returning late August and in 26A.... No point in requesting a point upgrade to get a slightly better meal!

Qantas apear to have adjusted their cabins in this way for most 744 flights July-October.

Currently back to normal Nov 1.

I noticed that Qantas has stopped selling first class on QF30 LHR-HKG in September. Good news for some people lucky to be travelling in the premium cabins.

Does anyone know if Qantas has the same plans for QF107 SYD-LAX-JFK? Currently selling first class on QF107 SYD-LAX in August.

Yep, I have a PE LHR-HKG in October which has me nicely placed in J. Looking forward to that flight!

The boyf and I are traveling HKG-MEL late July, ticketed in JCL but allocated F seats. I'm hoping it isn't simply a mistake and we'd find at check-in that we've been reallocated to the worst seats in the JCL cabin.

Call me utterly dumb but how are the "J seats for PE" seats allocated? First come first served, or by status etc?

Being that I don't drink in public, if I can 'almost guarantee' to get a J seat, I'd rather pay PE and sit in J seat than buying a J seat and end up in J seat anyway (i.e. I don't really need the J service), in this instance.

They have allocated the F section in the nose as J and upstairs as J. The J seats down below are now PE and the PE seats are being allocated I believe on a status and fare basis to economy passengers. If you look at Expert Flyer it shows the layout.

Hi,

I really think it would be on a Status basis. However as with all things QF you never really know.

If "almost sitting in J" is enough I would take the chance but for peace of mind paying J would be the only way (and then you may get F).

On QF 29/30 there is NO F. F is J.

Thank you Garyjohn and ejb. Time for me to sit and consider if I'd rather pay J and sit in F without the F service, or pay PE and sit in J seat.

Is QF using any of the PE seats for PE pax, or are they all getting shifted to J on QF29/30? (I should stop being dopey and book it pretty soon though - availability on my preferred date is not particularly terrific for PE).

Well looking at the seat maps in EF, it shows all the current 32 PE seats as Economy only. All are blocked, so I think WP Y travellers get first choice, then probb ly Gold Y

I have purchased Premium Economy tickets on Bris/La on the 10th QF015 and have been allocated 23F and LAX/SYD on the 11th QF108 with 29F

As they have only 3 seats accross the aisle, should I presume they are J Class seats?

The agent says they are premium economy, but on the seat map they are showing 4 across as well

Thanks

Welcome to AFF. :D

Check the row where your seats are preallocated.

If you see 2x3x2 configuration you have skybeds.

IF you see 2x4x2 then you have Y+ seating.

Thanks for the info. That's pretty interesting!

Yes my brother flew out on Wednesday night on QF29 to HK in Y as a SG and hw had row 44 Aisle in his original booking . 30 hrs before checking his booking he had been moved to a PE aisle seat.

Not bad for a red deal ticket.

I looked at a few seat maps yesterday for late Oct, and I tended to see:
J pax in F, J pax in J, PE in PE, Econ in Econ,.

So, perhaps J loads have started picking up again...

That is what I've been hearing as well and experiencing through work booking intl J travel as well we are seeing some heavier front end loaded (or top on the A380!) flights, trying to book an intl conf atm......(all attendees fly J).

Seems the 'GFC' worryworts are backing off maybe a bit now...
