Hey all,

Am I crazy for even thinking this.

Traveling from PER-SIN, the only option on SQ is J. Instead fly PER-SYD, do a stopover there and then fly SYD-SIN in suites.

Is the difference in F and J big enough to make the extra milage worth it or is that just crazy talk and the new obsession with flying F clouding my mind.

Thanks
Lawrage

12+ hours via SYD for F isn't worth it compared with 5 hours non-stop.

No brainer, fly PER-SYD on VA 'The Business', enjoy KF F lounge and fly SQ F to SIN. You only live once :)

Lawrage - I suppose it comes down to how much time and points you have.

If you want it, just do it! You only live once.

If I was going to do it, I'd want to have the F experience in the other direction to experience The Private Room... not the nightmare out of SYD :p so I'd fly direct on the way there and indirect on the way home.

But that's just me.

I did this from MEL. Flew MEL-SYD and then SYD-SIN-HKG. Definitely worth it. Nothing quite like watching a movie stretched out in a converted double bed :p

SQ also offer same day arrival access into TPR for all R/F pax so you can enjoy TPR on arr into SIN.

TPR is nice but that will mean doing overnight or early morning ex-SIN to make it for same day connection back to PER so If can only choose one way I'd rather fly midday/afternoon SQ232/222 ex-SYD to maximise the onboard F experience and sleep in J on the way back. The nightmare of SYD airport will be quickly forgotten once few glasses of Veuve are consumed in the F lounge :D

This is an interesting question - I've been considering the virtues of F vs J myself.

Later this year I want to fly to West Coast US. From MNL its 80k in J or 107.5K in F. But the F is harder to find availability, isn't in suites and has a reasonable amount of red eye time, which I'd comfortably sleep through in J.

I really want to try suites, so I'm thinking sticking with J and adding in a HKG-SIN-CGK flight for 37.5K. The CGK added on as its no cost and I can't see a better F add-on from HKG.

I'll go round asia in loops to do this, but I've always wanted to train from SIN to HKG and to top that off with Suites sounds good.

Is this silly - would the points be better MNL-LAX in F? I'm thinking a few extra points to have two F flights, one in suites, and the LAX flight in J is the correct answer!

What's the main purpose of the trip?

If it's to get to Singapore, then go for the direct option.

If it's to enjoy the travel experience, go via Sydney. :)

We will be catching a connecting flight from Singapore so PER-SIN-onwards or PER-SYD-SIN-onwards with say 2 days in Sydney (Cause im weird and never been before).

And yes I think the experience may win out here.

Pretty sure I read a post from you today that if you arrive in for a connecting flight, even if the connecting flight is in J you can use this lounge?

Reading this answer and im thinking "gee I know what Id do, the extra flight", helped me with my decision so thanks Lemon_Party.

Oh and thanks boomy and RoMambai, loved the "you only live once" comments.

If you have mixed class flt one sector in J and one sector if F - flt will price at highest cabin rate which is F - but you also enjoy F benefits for entire itinerary such as lounge access, luggage allowance etc - so YES if you arrive on a R or F BP and your connecting flt is J you can enjoy TPR/F lounge access - this is an unpublished benefit of SQ.

Thanks, clear as day

Just got off the phone with the Singapore Airlines as booking this F the entire way cant be done through the website on 1 booking.

I was quoted at 119,000 points for SYD-SIN in F and then a connecting flight from SIN-MLE in J.

Looking at the award chart it should be 102,500 minus the 15% discount.

Before I call back up anyone with any experience in this know which one of these points totals are correct.

The latter. It should be booked as a single through fare, with F points applying. Not all agents are aware of this, so your persistence might be needed. Ask them to escalate the call if necessary.
