Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Taken out of context, you neglected the part where that is irrelevant to those of us lucky enough to live alone.

Take a little care and it is highly unlikely one will need to cancel a domestic trip due to covid, especially since no test required to fly domestically.

And if you are a nervous nelly, get insurance, simples.

Ah, I love the posts from people who believe they can avoid Covid simply by being careful and, by implication, those who have Covid deserve it for not being sufficiently diligent in their precautions.

Mixed feelings on this. I understand why the airlines need to protect their revenue streams and start making back some of the billions lost. But also the point regarding close contacts and mandatory isolation is well made. Then you could say, that is not the airlines fault and maybe the governments should pay if they continue to impose such restrictions on people.

No easy answers! But overall I do think extending it would be the "right" thing to do from the perspective of passengers.

Nope, the only way to be a close contact is to live with a covid positive, therefore no way for anyone who lives solo to be a close contact, so entirely relevant.
As usual you are arguing against a point that was never made. No one is talking about solos and close contacts except you 😉. Up thread you asked what states still had contact tracing and you answered your own question - NSW at least, and I agreed. 😎 NSW and other states still have contact tracing, which answers your unqualified question. Full stop.

People have started to expect services to be unbundled in order that they can persuade themselves they are getting the best price possible. That includes flexibility. If people want flexibility on their tickets, the headline price will go up because airlines will want to replace the money they make of forfeited inflexible tickets. The airlines would argue that flexible tickets have always been there for people who wanted to pay for them…

I know it's pie in the sky stuff but I really am hoping VA Flex prices stay at the same levels for a long time to come. They are in the realm of affordable, certainly when compared to Qantas.

NSW is not contract tracing, check-ins aren't a thing anymore, you get zero notifications phone call or in app re positive cases and haven't for a couple of months.

That's a leap you have made all on your own and a complete twist of what i said.

Anyway there is no need to extend domestic fly flexible, if you want a flexible ticket they are available for sale, else you can buy domestic travel insurance with covid cover.

It is a two-way bargain. Qantas T&Cs have always said something like "we don't promise to be on time", though it is generally expected that a transport operator will get you to and from your destination around the time you booked. But all airlines have had schedule interruptions recently, I assume due to crewing issues. As long as that is the case, I think it's reasonable for travellers to also have the option to change their tickets due to isolation, quarantine, etc.

Which is absolutely still a thing in many parts of Australia.

The other consideration for airlines is that there are a lot of people who, for whatever reason, are still nervous. And airlines will struggle to get their dollars if they don't have some flexibility.

They have this option even without Fly Flexible, it is just if they didn't buy a flex ticket or insurance there will be a change fee as there always has been.

As I stated in my earlier post, if you get covid you can always provide proof and ask for consideration, QF have the ability to waive change fees for compassionate reasons - they have been known to do this when there is a death or serious illness pre-covid. They wont want you on flight if positive, but the flex policy has been mis-used a lot simply for changes of mind with no need to provide proof of inability to travel, and for commercial reasons that cant go on indefinitely.

You don't have to test negative ahead of a domestic flight, all domestic borders are open and getting pinged for being at the same venue as a positive is ancient history so the risk to not being able to fly is very low compared with 2020 or 2021. And for those unwilling to accept the risk they have the option to buy a flex ticket or insurance.

As others have stated unless a competitor extends first there is no commercial reason that QF would extend it.

Oh, my mistake. I looked at your post up thread and thought you said they only contact traced close contacts.

Is any state still doing close contacts? In NSW its only household members, I live on my own so that doesnt worry me.
