FLounge 6am to 10pm SYD for under $100?

I don't think it's bait. OP has made that claim in other threads, I think he genuinely believes it.
Nope. But thanks for enjoying the conversation.

My time and money is far better spent elsewhere than at the FLounge! (If I really wanted to eat and drink for free, I’d be writing this as a non ticket holder in the Qantas JLounge at SYD :) )

I was meaning OP who made the comments, not the literal OP of this thread. Sorry.

See @Lynda2475's post : FLounge 6am to 10pm SYD for under $100?

Ahh. I assumed OP was original poster :)

Strictly speaking yes, but sometimes when a thread gets big and we start discussing a sub topic, OP can mean the person who made the comments we are now discussing.

aka OTOP….😳

and well LAX.. best in the world ? I was wondering if anyone would bite on that one. Probably deserves its own thread :D
If you consider the lounges and the fact that you can go back and forth between terminals without worrying about emmigration or security then in many respects LAX is in a league of its own.
Best at what? Overcrowded gate lounges?
Hey, leave Hobart out of this discussion! They've got a lot to complain about with the dire situation of the QF lounge! 😂
Best place to be an airport concession operator as you can serve terrible food at double-inflated prices?
Name me an airport that doesn't charge an arm and a leg at restaurants. The fact that they are called concessions is a misnomer! As for restos and cafes at LAX they aren't bad, they got stuff you can't find in Australia like Starbucks. And if you want poor restaurants, I'd challenge you to visit Dublin airport! Every restaurant is closed by 8 PM.
Best imitation of the ground-side announcements from the movie "Airplane!" ?
That's why you head to the lounge and show up at the gate at the last minute!
Most restrictions on QF lounge access (no passes etc)?
That's what the frequent flyer status is for!

How can an airport that does not allow genuine airside transfers (i.e. not having to clear immigration and enter the country just to board another flight immediately leaving) be best? For this reason alone, no USA airport can ever be the best.
Oh I'm sure it's a genuine belief. But anyone who knows anything about international travel (or AFF!) would also know that it is a controversial opinion that is likely to be hotly debated, and really it did not need to be raised in this thread, hence it does seem like bait to me.
In terms of international arrivals, yes it can be annoying having to clear immigration, collect your bags and re-check. No doubt about that. Then again, those of us who travel regularly to the US have our Global Entry / Nexus card meaning it's maybe 5 minutes at a Kiosk to clear US immigration so the only thing you are really waiting for are the bags. And most importantly you have the benefit of accessing any terminal you want with a boarding pass irrespective of the flight even takes off from that terminal!

No arguments there, but probably not the reason you think ;)

Lol - just stop already! You've already proved my point ten fold.

the fact that you can go back and forth between terminals without worrying about emmigration or security

Once again, there is no emigration at airports, even on outbound. It's passport control. If anything immigration is more correct, it's often called that because it comes under the department of immigration who manage visas. There is no department of emigration. You are not immigrating if you come to Australia for a holiday or returning from an overseas trip.

To emigrate is to leave your country permanently to settle abroad (think migrant).

People just assume that the opposite of immigration is emigration but in this case, no.

so the only thing you are really waiting for are the bags
Something you dont have to do when doing a true transit in Asia or Europe or even Canada.

nd most importantly you have the benefit of accessing any terminal you want with a boarding pass irrespective of the flight even takes off from that terminal

Hardly unique to the USA, and certainly not to LAX as you can do the same at DFW given the train is airside and free.

You have much love for LAX which is fine, but most here loathe it.

And that's the thing. LAX isn't bad because it's a US airport. It's actually a bad US airport. Some US airports are good despite the I-I transfer thing (IMO they are offset by the ease of D-I transfers unlike Australia).

DFW is far better, you can get between any two gates in about 10 minutes. You can't even get a cab at LAX from most terminals.

LAX just feels third world.

Easiest legit way to get into the F lounge, which I have done in SYD, is the EK flight to CHC that leaves at 7am or there abouts.
Yes, have to pay the tix, and the price is Aud$14xx but still, its the most legit way to get in.
With the JQ flights, you do have to weigh up the chance that the tag flights MEL - SYD - CNS - Japan, might get cancelled at some stage, and you might get an sms or call that you are now on an A320 MEL - SYD, or vv.
If you really want to feel the SYD F lounge that is, not just have a "free" feed/drink of Piper H/Vevue.
The EK lounge is the better one, salmon for breakfast.
S&P are not available for breakfast.
And finally, the F lounge is SYD is not a huge place, that you can go into to hide..
They scan your BP on entry, and the lounge is quite open plan.
Sydney Int is not a 24 hour airport either.
But for anyone who wants to try what the OP is "suggesting" we are all waiting for the "report".
If a person is genuinely on a I - I transfer at SYD, ok its easy to get from arr to dep, but you would need a good excuse to say, "(I missed my flight!...)".
Though/thoughts, any takers who are willing to try it out?

If you are going to bring NZ flights into there are of course many QF flights and daily JQ flights to AKL and CHC... in fact the evening JQ flight to AKL would provide better experience than a 7am departure ..

I think the Pooch was using the EK example to get into the F lounge on basis of CoS - because he does not have the status to get in.

While SYD F lounge is hardly the EK monolith at DXB it's hardly a small space imo - specially compared to MEL. There is the quiet "library" area right down the far end for example.

Of course the Pooch is also out of touch mentioning Piper and VC also - though some can argue that one or either to be better than the current offering (tbh I'd far prefer the VC Rose .... )

Again in SYD QF5 when it runs is a nice little way to do it, as is QF9 ex MEL - afternoon departures, so full menu, and an ssentially domestic sector on a widebody. If I was that kee for it, those are the options I'd seek out.

For the sake of every fair and reasonable person ... don't even think about it ....

There is taking advantage as intended of benefits and then there is taking the P*ss

There have been many benefits "lost" because of people taking the P*ss ( PL anytime access and fly ahead are 2)

It could happen that access is restricted to 4 hrs before ( or some other time limit ) because of stunts like this .....

You have much love for LAX which is fine, but most here loathe it.

LAX has grown on me, yes back in 1991 for my first visit I wasn't a fan but over the 25 to 30 visits I don't mind it and if I have plenty of time I have been know to walk from one end of the terminals to TBIT then back down the other side.

The QF end of Tullarmarine is my current airport to loathe.

It's certainly getting better, but it still has a long way to go (and to be fair, I know they are working on it). TBIT itself is OK if you are only connecting, it's the rest of the airport, and especially outside the airport that's the problem.

In comparison to DFW, ORD, MIA, SFO, even JFK, it's a coughhole.

I was referring more to the inability to get a taxi from the terminal, having to allow an extra hour on an outbound trip to account for traffic, the shambles that are hotel/parking shuttles, the list goes on...

LAX does have the nearby In n Out :D that does give it some brownie points :D (plus that park for plane nerds)

also I'd prefer LAX TBIT to ORD T5 - that really is not the best... but ORD wins with the El blue line connection to the city, the ease to get around and the funky underground between the UA B & C gates.

LAX transportation is not the best - yes there's a bus (flyaway or something?) to Union Station area, but it's not like the SFO BART station, SEA and PDX light rail and DFW has the rail option too - to nake a few (but the US is not the best for public transit options full stop).

IME, you come in at T2, you get a hotel shuttle and it take forever to make the journey around the loop, you come in at T7 which of course at the end of the loop, so should be quicker, but doesn't even stop because it's full... 🤷‍♂️ Both have happened to me, although to be fair it was only another 10min wait at T7 for the next shuttle.
